VA says it won't follow New York's gun law By The Associated Press on March 11, 2013 ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) The federal Department of Veterans Affairs says its mental health professionals won't comply with a new gun law in New York that requires them to report the names of patients they believe likely to hurt themselves or others. The reporting provision is set to take effect Saturday. Several veterans and their advocates say it would deter many from seeking counseling and medications to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder or other psychological issues. Veterans fear their rights would be taken away. Under the law pushed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the information would be used to determine whether someone should give up a gun license or weapon. VA spokesman Mark Ballesteros says federal laws protecting veterans' treatment records take precedence. www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2013/03/va_says_it_wont_follow_new_yor.html

New AmericanGun Owners Refuse to Register Under New York Lawby Alex Newman Friday, 25 January 2013 )NOTE DATE) After Democrats in New York rammed a sweeping assault on the right to keep and bear arms through the legislature that failed to exempt police officers from the draconian restrictions, gun owners and even some lawmakers are planning what has been dubbed potentially the largest act of civil disobedience in state history. According to news reports, gun rights activists are urging everyone to defy far-left Governor Andrew Cuomo’s new registration mandate while daring authorities to “come and take it.” Analysts say the legislation, passed in a frenzy last week in the wake of the Newtown shooting, represents the most brazen infringement on the right to keep and bear arms anywhere in the nation. Among other points, the so-called SAFE Act seeks to limit magazines to just seven bullets, require virtually all of the estimated one million semi-automatic rifles in the state to be registered with authorities, mandate reporting of patients who express indications that they may have thoughts about hurting themselves or others by doctors, and more. Thank goodness the VA is standing up to Cuomo. I am not real encouraged though. I imagine that Obama, Biden, Reid and Feinstein will continue working to find a way to require the info to be divulged at a federal level. Hopefully we have enough legislators at the federal level with the balls to insure that is not successfully passed into law.
I was totally disgusted yesterday when Reid stood on the bodies of the dead marines and tried to connect their deaths to the sequester. There is little honor left in the democratic party in Washington.
They stood on the bodies of the Newtown victims first in their gun control efforts, and now they are blaming the sequester for the death of the marines. Gee, seems to me that it was Obama that allowed the sequester to go into effect.

Part of the budget deal included allowing us to possess 10-round magazines, but we're only allowed to load 7 bullets. It also made the law subservient to any local gun restrictions or laws. So any county that passes a local law to refuse to enforce it has just voided state law. Fancy that! cuomo admitted, indirectly, that he f-ed up. Even with those "tweaks" I hope the court has the spine to declare the law unconstitutional.

Now hes hoping he has enough votes to keep his job when next he runs.
