State Police Clarify Question About The NY SAFE Act Opt Out FormFebruary 21, 2013 10:53 AM Kristine Bellino, WIBX A listener-generated comment about the NY SAFE Act prompted our most recent query to New York State Police about the ability to opt-out of public disclosure of information relating to pistol permit owners in the state. The NYS Firearms License Request for Public Records Exemption is now available online. “Lola” contacted us and asked WIBX to clarify apparent qualifications for opting out of the disclosure. She indicated that the form requires that an applicant be a member of a certain group in order to successfully “opt out.” Qualifying groups may include law enforcement, retired law enforcement, or those affected by domestic violence. In response, law enforcement authorities responsible for answering questions about the New York SAFE Act say they have been advising callers who do not necessarily fit into the first three categories, but are worried about the potential for public harassment simply by being identified as gun owners, to check the fourth or fifth boxes on the form: See sample form at: wibx950.com/state-police-clarify-question-about-the-ny-safe-act-opt-out-form/"The fifth option is the prerequisite “other” category and law enforcement authorities say that the spirit of the opt-out provision is to indeed provide relief for those citizens who simply feel uncomfortable about disclosure. More questions will follow as the May 15, 2013 deadline for opting out approaches. Those with questions should call the hotline: (855) LAW-GUNS. Note that the hotline has been established temporarily to deal with the influx of questions expected since the bill’s recent passage. "In the meantime, listeners who experience problems with the procedure are invited to contact us at: news@wibx950.com."

The NY Safe Act needs to go the same way Bloomy's big gulp law went. It is poorly composed, over reaching, invasive, unconstitutional. liberal garbage.
What's next for the nanny state libs? Is there going to be a record available that allows you to see how many kitchen knives your neighbor has in his or her kitchen drawer? Is there to be a public record of all those with AIDS? Hell, a neighbor with AIDS could attack you and purposely infect you in a fit of rage because your dog crapped on their lawn. If you have a dog, you might just want to inquire about your neighbor's HIV status.
I am of the opinion that it is none of anyone's business what guns I own. Of course in NY the state is hell bent on compiling that information, but making it public is pure and unadulterated invasion of privacy.

I was listening to George Nourhy last night on Coast to coast. He had a guy on there (Craig Hulet)talking about statistics he gathered. Said that something is going on. That Homeland Security has been buying up ammo and guns. That there is a plan to take over citizens of the US because they are afraid of us and plan on taking our rights to bare arms. I might not like guns but the thought of anyone loosing our given rights is far worse. www.kcandassociates.org/

If we get through this term of Obama we might survive. If anyone was going to impose martial law, it would be our present socialist leaning leader.

I just heard this on WKTV. (I was in the kitchen doing other chores so I didn't take good notes.) The NYS legislature is considering a "technical correction" to the SAFE Act. There have been a lot of complaints that the act requires non-existent 7 round magazines. The correction is to allow 10 round magazines but restrict people to putting 7 rounds in them except on a shooting range where 10 rounds will be allowed.
Have the editors of Mad Magazine gotten a part-time gig writing laws for NYS?

I bet this tweak has more to do with the constitutional challenges, than the need to address a "tweak." They know full well that by restricting it to 7-round clips will effectively ban all firearm usage! Someone said it before somewhere, "Don't ban the guns, just the bullets." That exactly what that provision does.
