Spent the whole day yesterday from the opening time to closing at the NY State Fair and we had a blast. Kudos to all those involved in so many areas who did an excellent job to insure everyone enjoyed themselves and kept everyone safe.
There was something for everyone to enjoy and for all ages. Many of those involved in the fair gave out many different items to all for free and the free entertainment all day long was fabulous. There were so many educational programs and events for all ages to participate in and enjoy.
My only regret is that there wasn't enough time (or energy left) for us to see everything. New Yorkers can hold much pride in putting on one of the best damn fairs I have ever attended. Kudos also to many of the fair organizers who realized the economy has taken it's toll on everyone and lowered their prices for all to afford. That gesture was recognized and greatly appreciated.
....and Clipper, four of us did try the hot dog wrapped in bacon served in a sweet roll and all four give it thumbs up for being really very good. The hot dogs they and most all vendors at the fair served were Hoffman's.
We started our day off with an early breakfast at the Dairy Building with Belgian waffles with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. OMG were they ever delicious!
We had the new hot dog craze for lunch with curly fries.
For dinner we went to the Grange. We had roast oxen served with a baked potato, a salad, applesauce, a choice of beverage and ice cream for dessert. Excellent meal and all for the price of $10.00. Can't beat that.
Now, in between we did have the usual cotton candy, fried dough, lemon ice and purchased four candy apples to bring home. Oops, I almost forgot, I did try deep fried alligator on a stick and my sister tried the deep fried shark on a stick. Both very different in taste but pretty good.
We played various games and don't want to brag but I won many prizes to bring home to my grandkids. Won four prizes alone on the game where the guy has to guess your weight or age. They had four of those game booths throughout the fair grounds and I hit all four and won all four prizes. Get this....they guessed my age as 51, 50, 56 and 59. They or others watching didn't believe I was 68 and I had to show them my license as proof. Tomorrow when I go to Curves I'll have to thank them for keeping me in shape. ;D
