entertainment.verizon.com/news/read.php?id=19090704&ps=1015&srce=morenews_class&action=1&lang=en2 billion dollars spent to raze the old hospital on Roosevelt Island and to build a new "gleaming facility?" Well there goes any chance of anything locating in the wonderful shovel ready site in Marcy. Seems that Albany simply throws enough funding toward the Marcy project to keep area taxpayers fooled, appeased and hopeful that someday they will see the promised development of the high tech park that has been promised and not delivered for over a decade now. I simply shook my head when I read about the 4 lane parkway that opened in that area recently. A beautiful 4 lane parkway with not one, but two round-abouts. A parkway that serves an area of nothing but woods and fields for the most part. It is sad that money is spent and people's hopes are raised while the state simply promotes a different area with more political clout every time a high tech or chip fab venture is looking for a home. If I were in that field, I would much rather be living and working in Marcy NY than on Roosevelt Island. I would much rather drive up that parkway to work, than change subway trains and buses two or three times to get to work. I would much rather raise my family in a single family dwelling and have my kids going to an upstate school than to have them living in an apartment and going a NYC area public school. It is all about political clout and money. Utica and CNY simply don't have either at this point in time. Looks rather dismal doesn't it?

They just keep pooping on upstate at the same time they are telling us they need our abundant NRG resources. There are 500 different locations up here that could be developed at half the cost of anything downstate. They dont care, theres nothing happening here to get them elected and very few donors for their favorite charity, themselves!

I may have missed it but I haven't read about any state funds going into this project. It appears to be a joint venture between two private universities. (Yes, I know Cornell also has public colleges.) Mayor Bloomberg held a competition among universities interested in the site.
Again going by what I have read, there have been substantial donations to the project including an anonymous $350 million gift and $100 million from NYC. Supposedly funds are already in place to cover the first 10 years of campus operation

We just cannot compete for anything and we certainly will never have donors that can afford to support anything Upstate except our exceptional Lakes and forests when they buy their 500K camps!

I fail Reading Comprehension 101. The $350 milliion came from Cornell alumnus Charles Feeney. He is an interesting guy. blue collar background, dual Irish & US citizenship. He has donated almost $1 billion to Cornell and as much to Irish education.
