Amazon's write-up peaks my interest. And isn't the 10th Mountain Division from Fort Drum?

Yes Dave, the 10th IS home based at Fort Drum.
Thanks for the link Denise. I am definitely going to order the book.
Haven't seen you in here for a while. I hope all is going well for you and the family. Have a great weekend, and pop in more often.

Thanks, Clip. I thought Denise had mentioned it before and it sounded familiar. Those cold northern winters and proximity to the Adirondacks must be the reason for their locating at Drum.

These soldiers were a part of 2-87 Infantry Battalion, Bravo Company at Fort Drum. Book is about their 15-month deployment to Afghanistan 2006/2007.
If you like the book, check out "Outlaw Platoon" on facebook.

I must have mis-read the Amazon write-up.

I am confused too Dave. The inside flap of the book when viewed on Amazon definitely says "10th Mountain Division." I just clicked back and checked it again. Either way I am going to order the book. I have a stepson that is an Army Ranger and has served twice in Afghanistan.
I really am not familiar with the structure of the Army, but I imagine that the "platoon" falls under the Division command level of the 10th Mountain. Never could keep straight Divisions, Battalions, Companies, and Platoons.

Oops. Did not mean to confuse. Fort Drum is home of the 10th Mountain Division, which has several brigades (broken down to battalions, companies/troops/batteries & platoons). 2-87 Infantry Battalion is in 3rd Brigade Combat Team. Here you go... www.drum.army.mil/10md/Pages/10thMtnDiv.aspx

I think the 10th is 5 or 6 brigades now, a couple of them in other places, Polk and Germany. When camp Drum became ft Drum, we were attached as the 27th Brigade Enhanced for the first 6 years (National Guard). The training in Ft Drum was tough but for good reason, they get deployed for every conflict. Many have been deployed more than they have been at Drum. If you get assigned there, get ready to go!
