Police: Funeral home owner subjects employee to physical exams

A Cazenovia funeral home owner Wednesday has been accused of subjecting an employee to inappropriate physical exams as conditions of their employement, according to state police in Oneida.

Brian H. Tait, the owner of Tait Funeral Home located on Fenner Road in Cazenovia, was charged with third-degree sexual abuse and forcible touching, both misdemeanors, police said.

Officials said Tait was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Cazenovia Town Court for 7 p.m. on Oct. 25.

State police are asking any former employees with information to contact 366-6000.

If the sick SOB is doing that to live employees, just think what he is doing to people's deceased loved ones who are not able to stick up for themselves. He probably thinks that happy hour is all about going in the cooler and "grabbing a cold one." LOL

Oh boy, thats not going to go over well around here, its a very small world and he was well known in the area. I really thought he was one of the good guys! Unfortunately, my Sister in Law (RIP) was interned by his home. At the time we thought he was a blessing, he went way above the call and even allowed us a couple hours alone to pray and rest as a family with our sister a couple days before the funeral and woudnt hear about paying for that.

I hope its all a misunderstanding or just an employee with a grudge but that probably not the case if they have arrested him, I really do because my Brother in Law and I would suppose many others might not take this news sitting down. Any questionable actions on his part could bring retaliation and ignite long term emotional pain to those with any questions about his professionalism in this highly sensitive duty.

Sad, his is the third or 4th generation that owned the business. This will cause much stress and anxiety around this area for a long time to come.

That whole business is based on compassion and INTEGRITY. It IS very sad when someone in whom families place their trust lets them down and betrays that trust. Just to even think that the person that you have entrusted to treat your loved one's remains with respect and reverence is involved with some sort of inappropriate sexual obsession is enough to make a person ill.

I guess I think the same way you do to a certain extent JR. I also would love to find that it is just an unfounded allegation, but I also believe that if the State Police are asking for information there is much more to it than just a disgruntled employee raising a bitch. I think that unless the State Police were fairly well along in their investigation, they would not publicize such a sensitive incident or put the man's reputation out there for the public to pass judgment on, just as we are here in our possible rush to an unproved conclusion.

The guy seemed so damn nice! I just don't get the picture here, his wife was pregnant and both seemed so happy. Its a creepy job and I wouldnt want to do it but I'm sure it pays pretty well! Especially if your the owner and also own the Graveyard beside it.

His reputation is ruined, nobody in their right mind will ever go there as long as his family name is on the front of it. So sad, get a friggin hooker for gods sake! was he thinking?

I hope for his sake that is the only deviant thing he has done in that place cause anything else will be grounds for extreme measures.

I remember reading a story in the newspaper about an embalmer who would only have sex with his wife after she sat in a bath tub of cold water for 10 minutes and then laid very still in bed.
