www.uticaod.com/breaking/x26169968/Cuomo-450-high-tech-jobs-coming-to-MarcyWill this actually come to fruition and will the facility actually live up to the hype? Does this mean that the site that has been "shovel ready" so many times in the past will have something actually built on it, or is that still going to sit undeveloped and growing weeds and brush? If Cuomo can bring make facility and project a reality, and can actually give Utica and the Mohawk Valley a little shot in the arm, he will have gained MY respect for sure. How many other governors have blathered on about the nanotech site in Marcy and then not fulfilled any promises to the area? Who was governor when the site in the Saratoga area was picked over Marcy?

Pataki, in fact, I think that's one of those situation that was used against the disgraced leader convicted of political corruption. I forget who, but Skelos replaced him.

Now the students from India and Pakistan at SUNY-it will be guaranteed a job. That is providing they wish to stay.

I will believe it when I see exactly 450 employees there. Curious because I know there is still debate over the taking of land out there by Eminent Domain. The family last I knew was still fighting it.

FA, I believe these buildings talked about today are on the campus proper, not on the site that was the "chip fab" site which is where the Army Corps and the eminent domain proceedings are. They are technically two different properties, or at least they were. I live in Marcy and went to several hearings about it but that was several years ago. Things may have changed in that regard but I have not heard that they had. That has not been an easy mess to keep up with.

Some of the buildings going up at SUNY IT were for the college not for the chip plant. Supposed to be for the Nanotech program. A friend of mine is currently going to SUNY IT.

So I am led to believe that this project will take place on the existing campus, and most likely doesn't involve the land that is a bone of contention. It is to be more or less a research and development facility and not the infamous "chip plant?"

Not sure how they are allowing a company to be on land for a State college.

I don't find that unusual FA. I think colleges and universities form partnerships with corporations for research and development all the time. I could be wrong.
