If it's anything like the tax cap, stand by for the fine print.
Wait, here's the text of the new Gay Marriage Law coming off the wire now .....
New York Passes Gay Marriage Law
Gays will no longer have to duke it out to see who plays the guy and who plays the girl before appearing before a Justice of the Peace in New York State now that the legislature has passed a law allowing same sex marriage. A beaming Governor Cuomo wearing a large button on his lapel saying "Aren't We All A Little Bit Queer?" announced the new law at a press conference this evening. Among the provisions now written into the law of the land are these:
1. A Special License For Gay Marriage is required, but only because the Census Bureau requires the demographic information, explained the Governor.
2. The Special License will cost $2,304, but may be paid in installments. The reason for the high fee is because funding will be needed to set up a department of under 1,000 employees in Albany for receiving the fees that will come into the department. Any funds left over will be posted to the general fund.
3. Homosexual couples now living together must marry or they will be fined $2,304 each. Governor Cuomo said this provision is tit for tat. Now that the gay community has successfully argued for same-sex marriage, he said, the State intends to make each couple "legitimate."
4. The Special License for Gay Marriage will not be honored by any Judge, Justice of the Peace, Chaplain or ship's Captain, nor will most religions honor it for the purpose of conducting a marriage ceremony. But coincident with today's announcement the Governor was pleased to unveil a new Religion to be administered by the same new department that will collect the new fees for the new Special License for Gay Marriage. A gay couple wishing to marry will be required to join the new religion ... Baptisms are $2,304, Extreme Unction is free and Confession is being contemplated .... before purchasing their new Special License. If a Baptism and Marriage take place within ten business days of each other, a discount on both fees may be applied.
The Governor joked that these could turn out to be the cheapest fees in New York State by the time he finishes his next budget. "Bring your checkbook the next time you use the Thruway," he said.

Apparently someone misspoke last night with the final tally as I was watching it. They first said 36-26 which I was suprised. but apparently it was 33-29. It passed anyway.
