City lawyer not yet admitted to Bar AssociationI wish the disgrace would do actual research before publishing crap! She needed to register with the New York State Bar, not the OCBA or even the NYSBA! The latter two are organizations for attorneys to join. As a member, you have access to information, e.g. a schedule of upcoming CLE events. Or, if you do assigned counsel work, some counties require you to be a member of the county's bar association. But membership to either is contingent upon you becoming an attorney before applying for membership to them. The former is the ONLY way you can be an attorney in New York State. It gives you a registration number, and opens a file with the Appellate Division. The App. Div. then monitors your fitness to practice law. If an attorney commingles personal funds with client funds, the App. Div. sends a nasty letter to you and puts you through hell with the plan on revoking your license. To become a licensed and practicing attorney, you have to register with the State Bar through the Office of Court Administration. She already passed the bar exam (July 2010 to be exact). It has nothing to do with the ocba, rather the OCA. And it appears it is just a timiming issue with one of her former employers, which is difficult. All that means is that she won't participate in the grand ceremony with other new admittees. Once that affidavit is submitted, she'll be sworn in at a later time. But does not mean she is not qualified for the job, she passed the bar exam, which would be a barrier to her continued employment.

Swimmy, thanks for posting this. I was wondering about all the items that you point out in your post, the article did not seem correct to me.
