Let's all remember these brave men & women of Fort Drum's 3rd Brigade Combat Team as they are heading back to Afghanistan. A quick turn for them--they were just there 1/09 to 1/10 & were enjoying their block leave last year at this time. They'll be joining Ft Drum's 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, who also returned to Afghanistan after a short stay at home. They were deployed 10/08 to 10/09 & were deployed again 10/10. Please remember their families as well who sacrifice so much. www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2011/03/fort_drums_3rd_brigade_ships_o.htmlGood article. On a personal note, about half way down is a picture of a young lieutenant holding his daughter. I just met and spoke to him last Wednesday. A very fine young man.

Denise, with pleasure. They will all be remembered in my daily prayers. God bless them and their families for the sacrifices they are willing to give for all of us and may God keep them safe.

I pray for our troops every day of my life. We have a friend whose son is there now with the Marines. The 10th Mountain Division is specifically trained to fight in that type of terrain and environment. I pray for each and every one of them to return safe to their families.

I look forward to the time when the deployments to Afghanistan are ended. The loss has been so great. I was at one of 3rd Brigade's battalions last week, and they had a glass case displaying photos and dog tags of the soldiers they lost during their 15 month deployment 2006/2007. They were all so young.

We all share your feelings, Denise. All we can do is give them our support and prayers and that's what we'll do till the last one comes home.

So sad, 122 of ft drums citizens are dead, new Service numbers are being added daily. Ive heard that one of the reasons we arent standing down is that the unemployment numbers would go through the roof, thats no good reason to continue this crap. I dont know how we have the stomach for this shit anymore. If we lost 122 souls in Clinton, the entire State would be up in arms.
Every day we lose a brother or 2 because we can't decide when to celebrate our victory with a homecoming. We won the war and now were hanging around until we lose the peace. Our soldiers are not Peacekeepers, they are Warriors; they are Offenders, not Defenders, the UN is a Peace Force, we are not. When we occupy a Defense too long, we DIP (Die in place). In the Infantry we called it a Duck Shoot and our Service-Members are the ducks in the Taliban's private shooting gallery! They shoot a few, we send in replacements.
We had a Motivational Marching Cadence in Basic Training, "Get in, Get out, Stop F!@#$%G about, sound off, 1, 2 sound off 3, 4.... " Whats old is whats new, time to pack up our toys and come home!

The loss of each of those young men was a tragedy.
JGR, I don't buy the unemployment rate argument. This is a different situation than Viet Nam. Then we had a large army with many draftees plus a large group of 3 year enlistees. For most of us the goal was to get through our term of service and go home.
Now we have a much smaller army with a large core of professionals. If we pull 100,000 out of Afghanistan it won't put 100,000 on the unemployment line and over a year it would be only a small blip compared to the 4000,000 or so who file new claims each week.
Unemployment among vets is too high no doubt but I think that's a separate problem.

It's just a senseless waste.

It's just a senseless waste. That's it in a nutshell. If we took up a collection in America provide enough money to bring home our troops and instead pay Halliburton or someone to patrol Afghanistan, no matter now many millions it cost, the collection would go over the top in less than a week.
