Amen swimmy. Townsend and company can't come up with a fair and equitable settlement of the sheriff's deputie's union contract. Why would we expect them to act any more intelligently with something as large and well represented as the OIN? haha.
Halbritter for Governor of NY State! Emery for county exec!

Uh oh. Swimmy dropped the R-bomb.
I have to believe that Townsend learned all he needed to know about Oneidas back when he was a deputy sheriff ... they just get drunk and steal cars. Time to grow up, Dave.
The EIS shows real data on how the Oneidas have proven to be willing to make payments to local governments to compensate for services received, as in the education of their children.
The Oneidas are people of principle and they believe they are not obligated to pay taxes. Why our leaders insist on being paid tax instead of grants is beyond me.

It's a control thing. They don't know how to compromise when it comes to the peons who they rule over as gods from Mt. Albany.

Boy, I swore I wouldn't get into this topic but reading what y'all have stated just got to say something. ;D A few of you from the past on the OD forum know how strongly I feel about our Native Americans and how I have always stood behind them when it came to their rights and their fights against the government. Boy, in doing that it wasn't always easy. I just want to say how proud I am to be your friend and to hear you defend our wonderful brothers and sisters of the OIN. Don't want to go into anything more then that. I just got into one of the few moments of being sentimental and wanted to let you know how I feel in this moment.

;D Don't run Ray for president yet!!! We need for him to serve as governor of NY for a couple of terms. Then when he has NY back to reasonable financial and economic health, we will share him with the rest of the country!!! Would that not be strange? A native american presiding over his native land? What a novel idea! I only foresee one problem with Ray as pres. We are worried about land into trust now?? I could foresee a lot of land being returned to the control of native tribes if we ever had a native american president. Nobody would be safe from the land trust issue. It would only be fair, but boy, would it sting!! Probably would rewrite the constitution, or amend it to do away with the partisan patronage, and bullshit of congress, and institute a "tribal council" form of government, that would have the well being of the tribes in mind. Not possible under our democratic form of government, but an interesting scenario, don't ya think? Hmmm. Maybe we better selfishly hold Ray to the state level, in the interest of the indians not doing to us what our ancestors did to them.

The Oneida's better be careful- how much control will they have over their land once its in a Trust? I would hate to see their casino and all other business in the trust land being shut down by the FEDERAL Government because they violate some obscure rule regarding the trust land.

I'm kind of regretting my strong words on the OD topic about the EIS release. It sort of shut down the discussion. And when swimmy arrived, the antis realized they had shown up unarmed for a battle of wits and fled the scene.
Maybe I should go over there and call Townsend and Vickers racists. That might draw them out. Then I'll step back and let swimmy play whack-a-mole on their empty heads.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has decided to review a land trust suit in Rhode Island.

Very interesting point to ponder rrogers40. I wonder what the trust status is on the land where Mohican Sun and Foxwoods casinos are located. they have been there longer than the Turning Stone. At least Foxwoods has. I am not sure exactly when Mohican Sun came into being.
Love the whack a mole thing Frank. Now when I see a kid playing that game at Chuckie Cheese, I will be waiting for Dave Townsend or one of his cronies to pop up. Hell, I might even put a token or two in the machine strictly to take out my frustrations, LOL

Foxwoods and Mohican Sun are on land held in federal trust. The briefs filed on behalf of the Indians are likely to contain references to the impact on those casinos should the court uphold Rhode Island's appeal.
The whole issue may be mute if Congress legislates Interior's authority a little clearer.

With a state as small as Rhode Island, land into trust could take half the damned state, and have a REAL impact on the tax base.

I think the Rhode Island application is seeking 31 acres to be placed into trust for the purpose of constructing a casino.
