Hello everyone, I'm finally back on American soil. Not for long though. I'm now stationed at Ft. Riley and we are set to deploy to Iraq in September (is there really a withdrawal plan?) Anyway I bought my first house and it's lovely. I have mixed emotions about being back in the states but hey, that military life get to choose to life, just not where to live it.

Wow JR! It is great to hear from ya again. Glad to hear you are back in the USA again, however short you stay this time. I really do see and end to our involvement in Iraq in the near future. It may be a long term peace keeping mission, or advisory mission, but at least we will have allied support in THAT effort, and won't be carrying the load on the backs of our own brave soldiers alone.
Sorry that I have not been emailing as I used to. I lost my Dad in October, and was really busy attending to him and spending time with him in his last days. I also have been taking care of Kathy with her unsuccessful back surgery and the ramifications since last August, and most recently, my own back surgery on March 10th. I guess I didn't take the time to keep in touch with people that are important to me, as much as I should have been.
I am really glad that you have reached that point in your career where you can pick out a retirement home, and make that ever important purchase. It is a great feeling to have "roots" and a place to call your own. Congratulations. Fort Riley is a pretty decent place to be. I was there only once. I stayed in the visiting officer quarters while traveling through on a permissive TDY. We had been to Hill AFB on a survey trip prior to closing Griffiss, and I chose to rent a car and drive back to Rome on annual leave, but had tdy orders in order to stay on military bases. I had friends in OK city, Witchita and St Louis, and wanted to take my time coming home.
Just know that you and all of our troops are in my prayers every day, and I am proud to be your friend. Your career commitment to our country's military is to be held in high respect. Especially during wartime. I am confident that you will complete this upcoming tour in Iraq safely and successfully and will be back home before you know it. Have a great day buddy and welcome back. Try and get on here more often now that you are back stateside!
