Happy birthday son! It was 39 years ago today when your mom called me from Newport to tell me she was going into labor. My mom and dad, who lived just up the street, put her in the car to come to the city. They were supposed to pick me up at Chicago Pneumatic, where I was working at the time. I was so excited that I walked from CP to Schuyler Corners before they could drive to Utica from Newport. That was the best day of my life. The worst days of my life were when you fought cancer when you were 18, but my sunshine was reignited when you were cured. I don't remember how long your mom was in labor, but you were a big baby, and it was a hard labor and delivery. The first time I saw you, my heart melted like hot butter. You have always been not only the first son, but the greatest joy that has ever came into my life. For thirty nine years, St Patricks day has always held a special place in my heart, and it was not corned beef and cabbage or green beer that drew my attention. You are a wonderful son rick, and you always will hold the prestigious position of being "number one son", a special title that my dad always had held for me, and that I hold for you. You were also "number one grandson", and never lost any of your shine in the eyes of your gram and gramp, right to the day of their deaths, you were their favorite, and brought sunshine to their day with the mere mention of your name. You were here for me and Grandpa when Gram died, and you came to be with me, when our "hero" was on his deathbed. That is something that was very comforting to me. While I love all three of you boys equally, you have a special place in my heart, and always will. Just know that you and the kids are still the sunshine in my every day, and that I am very proud of what you have become. I love you son. Happy birthday! Thanks for your patience everyone. I just have that "proud Pop" symdrome, and a wonderful son to brag about, haha.

Yep. I was going to keep it for an email, but then I thought to myself. Why not share with you all what a wonderful and special son he is and always has been, haha.
I suffer from that proud pop thing all the time, with all three of my boys.

hey pop,
thanks for the Happy B-Day wishes. I am very happy that I have been able to live my life in a way that has made you proud. I had some pretty great role models in you, gramp, mom and gramma. You were all there for me anytime and everytime I needed support or guidance, and that is what has enabled me to make the right choices in my life thus far. you say you are proud of me? Well I say I am proud of you. Yes Grand Pa was my guy, and we had a very special relationship. I loved him with every ounce of my being and will always look back on my memories of he and I together as some of the best times of my life, but in the same I have always looked up to you and you have always been the guy I wanted to be. You are a guy that has met adversity and come out the other side stronger and better. You have lived your life in a way that you can be proud of. you have made mistakes just like the rest of us, but have always learned from them and moved forward instead of letting them define you and strand you where you were. I have faced challenges, and had to make decisions in my life that were difficult to say the least, but I have always used you as my guidance and tried to make sure I made the decisions I thought you would have made. You have always defined what a man is supposed to be to me, and that has driven me to become the man I have become.
So on this my 39th birthday I say thank you to you. Thank you for being the loving father that you have always been. Thank you for being the man you are so I had a man to strive to be like, and most of all thank you for being my Dad and never judging me as anything other than your son.
Love you and talk to you soon. Now I got to go drink some green beer and eat some corned beef and cabbage. I have an image to uphold LOL.

Hey Spartan, I give you a lot of praise for living a good life and a lot more credit for having Clipper as your Dad. Could you p-l-e-a-s-e come around a little more often so we don't have to listen to him all on our own. This one is for you birthday boy................... ;D HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, "OUR DEAR SPARTAN," HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU................................................. Wishing you all the best in many years to come. Have a great St Patty's evening but do be careful. ps: Don't tell your Dad and it ain't easy for me to say, but your Dad is a pretty good guy. Just don't say a word about this, because I do have this cool image to keep portraying to him.

I guess I confused some people by just putting both birthdays under the title of happy birthday Spartan in the index of threads. Sorry. My son is rnaegele, Sunshine. Spartan is a year older than my son and I would probably be proud to be their dad too. I DO wish Spartan7997 all the best and hope their day is going wonderfully. LOL Bobbbiez, he won't say a word about it. Your "cool image" is still safe and intact. It's the drugs I tell ya! They have fried what little brain I had left! The muscle relaxers have killed what few cells that were left from my drinking days, hahaha. Sorry for the confusion guys and gals.

There's one argument I'll "let" you win. I can't stand my own singing. It's pretty obvious when everyone in church moves a few pews away every time I open my mouth and start singing.

Hey Clipper! You just might be right for once. Do love those fried crispy meatballs with plenty of garlic in them every Sunday morn along with the fried dough. Better stop using the dollar store mouth wash and go back to my old faithful brand Listerine or eat breakfast "after" church. ;D

Mmmm, fried meatballs? Where do ya get them? I used to love the meatballs at Camacho's Bar. She used to make them in both hot and mild and they had them in jars behind the bar. A couple of slices of fresh italian bread to absorb the heat, and the spicy ones were heavenly. I used to drive them to ball games twice a year on the bus. Mrs. Camacho would always make me a separate bag lunch of several meatball sandwiches and fried peppers to last me all day while the guys were in the game. They were a great group, and the tip for the day was always in excess of $125. I don't know if the bar is still there, on Huntington St, but it is a nice little "neighborhood" tavern with a neighborhood crowd, cold beer and good snacks.
Fried Dough is one of my favorites. Kathy makes fried dough for breakfast about once a week. Mmmm Mmmm. Hot out of the grease with cinnamon and sugar and a cup of Folger's on the side. Now THAT is heavenly. We buy frozen bread dough in loaves, five loaves for about 3 bucks. She makes both fried dough and fresh bread from the dough. For fried dough she puts it in a gallon ice cream tub overnight, and in the morning it is thawed and pushing the lid off the tub, haha. God it's good. Sheesh I am drooling just thinking about it, haha. Can't beat fresh, home baked bread for sandwiches either.

What the hell do you mean, "where do ya get them?" I MAKE them and must say, damn good to. My family loves them and I'm recruited to make them for all and for all occasions. Both Harry Dorsagno and his wife have passed away. Harry passed first and then her. Camacho's was in our shuffleboard league when it was still going. Always had a great time there. Not sure if anyone took it over after them. No more shuffleboard league, don't drink, so I don't make the bar rounds any more.
