That's right. I don't know exactly what that means, either. On their site this message:
"CNYFORUM HAS BEEN SOLD. IF YOU NEED TO COPY ANY RECIPES PLEASE PRINT THEM AND SAVE THEM NOW. THANKS FOR ALL THE CONTRIBUTIONS TO CNYFORUM"
I hope the new owners are aware of the copyright discussions we had regarding the CNYForum, and the statement that was placed on the masthead that posts were automatically copyrighted by the writer.
Anyway, that aside, an interesting development. A second note says that Amanda's recipes and Joe's photos will appear on the Utical Daily News site.

It's a good thing I moved most of the "After Bebop A Lula" stuff here from CNYForum. I wish I had made copies of all the stuff on the Obliston. There was some good research there.
Witchypoo, are you over here on this forum yet?

Is it too late to move your Olbiston stuff Dave. I found that very interesting, as I find MOST Utica history. I love to read it, and fill in the blanks that I have in my own recollections, and I also like to add my recollections and facts to the story.
If I were you, I would be concerned about the copyright issues. You most likely have some great stuff on there, and as a professional writer, it could have a serious impact, should a conflict arise. I will have to go there and see if I can still read a recipe if I want a single recipe. If not, I guess we will need to concentrate on making that a feature on our own forum, so we can share recipes and look on the forum should we want something along those lines or some cooking advice. We would however have to be very careful NOT to duplicate anything on their site and infringe on any copyrights. I have always enjoyed the CNY Forum. I am hoping that it doesn't change too much, and that it remains a place we can still post to, and enjoy as we always have been able to. I would imagine that moderation will become tighter, being a commercial site, and part of the Bill Keeler organization. His high profile in the media business would seem to me, to open him to a higher than average chance of legal challenges from the discontented.
Well, we will just have to see. Drop me a note, or post something as to the actual ramifications of the changes, as you see them. I don't fully comprehend much of the internet business, and the ramifications of such a change. Fill me in. Thanks Dave.

A notice on the main page of the CNYForum states, "Due to popular demand this forum may be saved. Watch for details here in the upcoming weeks.?" And the food forum appears to be working. But the link to the Utica Daily News points to a bad url, "daiynews" without the "L".

I have been in contact with Joe Mezz about the future of CNY Forum. Parts of it will survive and thrive, while other parts may be taken down. I will let Joe make those announcements on the CNY Forum when he sees fit. I get the impression that plans are not final and things are in flux with that website.
I wished Joe all the best from all of us here that are members of both forums, and he was gracious enough to post a link to Clipper's Busy Corner on the banner at the top of the CNY Forum page, in hopes of sending some additional members our way. For that gracious gesture, I am extremely grateful.
Joe Mezz's page was the first actual discussion forum that I ever read or joined when I received my first computer. His photos as well as Shadowman's ,and the moderation and managment of THAT site, has played a role in teaching me much about forum administration.
Our own Kim comes to us from the CNY Forum and has served as a moderator on that forum as well.
I have always considered the CNY Forum to be our older role model as a forum, and a viable alternative and additional place to go for pleasant discussion. I have always believed that the area needs at least two GOOD forums to read and take part in, and I am proud that Clipper's Busy Corner has become one of them, thanks to all of you who keep it "real" and keep it lively.
Utica Area Discussion Groups went by the wayside at the end of February, and the OD forums met their demise quite some time ago, and their comment section has not "set the world on fire".
The news and information world around Utica and Central NY is in flux. The OD seems to be in decline with the economic problems faced by large media companies, and online news taking over from printed newspapers. Their popularity, as well as their quality of reporting seems, in my opinion, to have taken a downturn.
The new site "Utica Daily News" is a great place to visit, and it is only in it's infancy. It is under very good management, has acquired some great staff members, and is going to be an alternative to the OD Homepage, that many of us become so frustrated with. I go there now for everything but the obituaries. I read the OD page "later in the day" when I get time, and that used to be my first stop on the computer each morning.
All I can say is Good Luck Joe Mezz in whatever your endeavors may be, and to those of us at "The Corner", hang on, it is going to be and interesting and exciting ride. I am really excited with the Daily News site, and can't wait to see what Joe does with the CNY Forum page. I am sure it will be a great site and will remain at the top of MY favorites list.

I guess I don't understand why the forum had to be sealed up so that we can't get our posted information. I see no value to be sold regarding that information. As a matter of fact, a couple of years ago, as a result of the question being brought up, the CNY Forum posted a notice on it's front page that posts were automatically copyrighted by the poster. Some of my early stories were submitted as posts. Too, I feel cut off from some of the folks who I contacted only through the forum. Joe told me in a note that only the Food part might be back, as it seems to be now, and although as you point out he said things are up in the air, it doesn't appear that the old forum will be back, or that we'll have access to our posts. On at least a couple of occasions in the past few days, I've thought of something I wanted to search for on the forum and am now unable.

What did Joe have to say about your concerns? If he just deletes the old threads there won't be any copyright problems, but there may be some wonderful stories just plain lost in cyberspace. Are they stories that you never fully developed, edited, and put on "More Stories"?
I myself went searching for a thread I had posted on there quite some time ago, and was disappointed to find that only the food area is open to browsing.
I am sure that Joe has no purposeful intent to cause any negative impact on his former members, but I think that as a commercial, paid for, site, and commercially marketable, he sure would have possible reasons to do the deal, before announcing any of it. If I am not mistaken, it is HIS property, although I am not sure of the background. Am I correct in that it is a "paid for" domain? I assume so, because there were no google ads or banner ads other than local ads that I assumed were paid for.
I guess I will be happy with the ability to access the food and recipe section. I always have loved that part of the forum, and have tried a few of the recipes. I especially love the "old time" Italian recipes, right from the kitchens of East Utica grandmothers and mothers. The recipes brought straight from the "Old Country". I always liked the picture that Joe put up on there once of his Mom in her kitchen. It so reminded me of my gram, when she would be in the kitchen, cooking me up something special, and the love that was in the air, along with the aromas of the food cooking.

I don't remember specifically mentioning those concerns. He'll read them here. I don't think badly of Joe (don't even know the guy). I'm just a little annoyed. I really don't think any of us would lose anything of value. I have web-published everything separately on my own website.
I don't know any of the legalities or how the web site business operates. You can create a website, accept paid-for advertising and make money. So you can sell that business to another. Why the new owner would dump all the former members and their posts, except for those having to do with food, is beyond me. I'll guess we'll just wait and find out.
By the way, if you're not signed up for Joe's email list of "Recents Posts on the Web" or his kick-ass Joe Mezz Photo Blog, you're missing some good stuff!

I will have to do that. I have never seen the option. Is it listed at the top of the CNY page? Gotta go there now and check it out. Love his photos.
