I'm glad your granddaughter was ok. :-) Stephen actually didn't have viral meningitis, he had bacterial. I wish he had viral. Viral is more contagious, but less deadly. We were lucky we got him in when we did...had we waited he might not be with us, and I don't even want to think about that.
Stephen was actually born deaf and had a cochlear implant when he was 14 months old. Cochlear implant people do have a higher risk for meningitis, but not that much higher and he had been vaccinated, so this was a shock. He heard so well with his implant nobody ever knew he was deaf. If his hearing does not come back, we will have the other ear implanted, but we're hoping his hearing comes back. It's hard to not be able to communicate with him. Luckily, he's 7 and can read lips as well as read, so we've we've been passing notes to him.
