I just talked to Clipper and he's out of surgery and is doing ok. He expects to go home tomorrow.
We thought we might be able to go home tomorrow as well, but Stephen put up such a fuss when they tried to drain his ear today that they decided they'll do it tomorrow instead and put him out for it. Sooooo...hopefully we'll go home on Thursday. When we go home we'll be going home with a PIC IV which I'm nervous about. Luckily I have a neighbor who is a nurse and another who is an ENT, so hopefully they'll be able to help. Also, hopefully he'll be done with that before our Disney trip, so we won't have to worry about it there. He might be deaf while we're there, but hopefully he won't have the IV line.
Stephen still cannot hear, but I'm going to try to be positive. Please keep sending those happy thoughts and prayers! Thanks.

If the PIC IV is what I think it iis, you'll have no trouble with it, Kim. No one is more squemish about needles and blood than I am and I had no trouble assisting with my wife's IVs at home. Besides, it can't possibly be any worse than changing a diaper, can it?

Be aware that we are all praying for satisfactory results with both Steven and Clipper. Do not 'worry', it won't solve anything or make things any better. Concentrate, Hope and Pray for a complete cure.

Hang in there, Kim. It's tough not to worry about your kids, I know. But he has a lot of medical folks working for him and the rest of us with fingers crossed and hands joined.

My heart is just aching for you. As a mom, I know how you are feeling. Just stay positive and know that you will get through this and Stephen will be that happy, healthy little boy again soon!

Dave, haven't heard from Kim myself since Sunday but when I talked to Clipper today, he had talked to her and seems all is going ok. I think Clipper said Kim thought Stephen was starting to hear a little. Just great news. Sunday when I talked to her I did tell her with his condition the loss of hearing is usually temporary and hopefully all will be good. We'll keep offering the prayers up for Stephen and Clipper and all their families.

Well, I just got home, and I am sore as hell, haha. Feels like someone has a dagger in the middle of my back, but the leg pain is gone and the surgery was a success. I will start feeling better when the muscles that they cut start to heal, and the swelling goes out of my spine. I ended up with about a 4inch incision and staples, but it is such a relief not to have that horrible leg pain that I can handle this back pain while I heal. Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts all. I won't be on much for a while, because it hurts to sit and I am not supposed to sit straight up for a while. I am supposed to recline, lay down or stand up, and not sit on a hard straight chair.
I have to get off of here and call Kim and find out how Critter is doing today. That's my buddy. I was thinking about him while I was waiting in recovery for them to get me some coffee and take me to my room. Love all you folks and I am happy to have such good and supportive friends. God Bless you all.

Hi everyone. Thanks for asking about Stephen. Stephen is ok...we're doing the IV thing 4 times a day. 5:30am and it takes until around 8 to finish, noon, and it takes about an hour, 5:30 and it takes about an hour, and 10:30 and it takes about an hour. Soooo...we're not sleeping much! We only have to do this until April 3rd, though. He still cannot hear and he's very frustrated. He won't be able to go back to school until at least April 6th because of the IV thing...sigh. I hope he's going to be able to hear soon. I'm very concerned about that. But...he's alive and there is no brain damage. We were very lucky we got him to the hospital when we did.
Please keep sending good thoughts that he'll hear again soon, and thank you for all the good thoughts about his getting over this stupid illness. Bacterial meningitis is just evil.

Clipper, that's good news! Glad you're back and the prognosis is great if you are relieved of the pain. Whew! Frank and I sure had a time covering Bobbbiez for you. Frank's the expert, though. I just carry his spear. Hahahahaha!
Kim, really glad to hear you're all back home. That sure does seem like a schedule that'll tie you down, unfortunately. Hope Stephen does well through it and I'm sure his hearing will improve bit by bit. It's' scary, I know. I'll send along good thoughts, backed up by a few prayers.

Kim, just keep the faith girl. All will come around as the little guy heals. You have our prayers and I'm sure Stephen will improve gradually. It's early yet. I hope you are getting the rest when you can. Please don't let yourself get run down. We don't need you sick to. After all, we're depending on you to carry our weight. Picture that ! Seriously girl, take care of yourself. Will continue to offer our prayers up for the little guy and for you.

Clipper, you old fart, get your dupa off the chair and do what the Doc told you to do. Geez, do I have to come out there to play nurse maid to you and force you to comply with Doc's orders? Really don't think you want Kathy and me after your a**. Happy you're home and getting around. Now, behave yourself! Don't worry about us. All is good and we can live without you for a few days. REST!!!!!!

Kim - My granddaughter had viral meningitis when she was 1 year old. It was very frightening as the virus just has to run it's course. She spent a few days pretty much just sleeping in the hospital but then recovered fully. She was a miracle network child that year because she did so fantastically well. I'm sure Stephen will come through OK too. Jenna has a little hearing loss in one ear but nothing that handicaps her in any way. We didn't know if she could hear or not when she was so acutely ill because she was so little and mostly just not responding to anything anyway. Today she is a smart. beautiful, healthy, happy almost 16 year old! I will pray for your outcome to be as wonderful! Take care of yourself too!
