Maybe I've had too much coffee this morning, but is anyone else suspicious of the ads for model airplanes on this morning's Al Jazeera web page? The banner and sidebar ads say these are high quality metal models of commercial aircraft from all major airlines. "Highly realistic. Buy online. Delivered all over the world." This is weird.

Relax, Dave. They're probably just selling them for use in madrassas around the world to familiarize their students with various aircraft they might see while traveling.

I did not know there was more than one english Al Jazeera web page. the one I view english.aljazeera.net/does not have all the bells & whistles of yours. And no ads for model airplanes.

Yes, I know the one you're looking at. I watch aljazeera.com
It's in English. Maybe by virtue of a cookie from a previous life.

Your post caused me to look at web bill boards this morning.
While viewing a story on the Minneapolis Star & Tribune, I saw 2 ads for Turning Stone on the same page. I'm used to context sensitive ads (some of the ones showing up on this board range from ironic to hilarious) but are advertisers now using location sensitive ads as well.
Knowing that someone using an ISP in central NY to view a Minnesota based web page and targeting the ad is a little too intrusive for my taste.

Yes, I'd forgotten about ads tuned to my Internet usage. But I've not been interested in model airplanes since I was a kid. Maybe it's because over the past week I searched on airplane design information regarding the Dash 8 that crashed in Buffalo, plus numerous aviation searches.
Hmmm. Banner ads become a window to my soul.
When I start seeing casket ads, I'll start worrying.
What kind of advertising do YOU see on Al Jazeera?

1. I went to the aljazeera.com site and it had the same sale for model airplanes.
2. Remember, there is no such thing as privacy on the Internet. Before encryption was allowed over the Internet, everything, including passwords, was passed through in plain text, making hacking relatively easy.
3. When I was doing research for a judge I clerked for, I had to get some Canadian case law that wasn't printed in a reporter. So, I had to google it. But google.com wasn't giving me anything. I had to use google.ca. Even searches are designed to return hits based on your country location.

The one I normally view (with"english" in the address) has no ads. Maybe the advertisers you see are helping to support my viewing. If so, thank you.
