wibx950.com/ixp/705/p/show-receipt-walmart-new-york/Do you have to show your receipt if employee asks for it when exiting the store? NY is one of the states that makes if mandatory to comply with the policy. Thank goodness Tennessee is not. I have no objection to complying at Sam's Club where the merchandise is in the open in boxes or loose in the cart. Walmart? Not so willing to comply. If I were to have a cart loaded with bags of groceries. There is no way I would care to allow someone to hold me up while they paw through the bags. I actually tie the top of the bags before leaving the store so I can pick up several bags at a time so that they are easier to take out of the cart to load in the car.

I have never had anyone ask to see my receipt at Walmart.

It's been a while since I've been asked. I haven't bought a big ticket item from WM in quite a while so they don't bother me. If WM is worried about getting ripped off at self checkout then hire cashiers.

yes, they do ask, and I always show them, however they glance at the bags is cursory, they use what I call the "one finger flick," then let you go. No one has ever gone through my bags or my cart.

I can see it if you are wheeling a tv or computer out of there, but a sack of groceries, not so much.

If they ask everyone leaving the store, no one can complain that they are being singled out. No one has ever dug through one of my bags. They appear to glance at one item on the receipt and wave us through.

You all know how I feel about Walmart to begin with. I don't have to worry about it when I do my normal thing and go in and out through tire and lube. When I go out the main door I DO hold up my receipt but I don't stop for inspection. To each their own I guess.

It's an interesting article, though not entirely correct. We don't have 'age old' greeters, we have AP Customer Hosts; who are not there to greet you, fetch you mart carts from outside or harass anyone. They are part of Asset Protection and are there to ask to see receipts of unbagged items in your cart as well as big ticket items. Think "bigger than a breadbox and more expensive than a sheet of plywood". If you don't want to show your receipt, go for it. If you are suspected of what is now referred to as "unlawful taking", you may be asked for a receipt while some sketchy guy oversees the process. Depending on what you may have that hasn't been scanned, you may be asked to go pay for the item, surrender it, or have it removed from your possession by the sketchy guy. If you are a shoplifter, we'll just take the cart away from you.......if you're lucky. We do have debates going on between many of us tasked as an API and LE as to whether or not APCHs can look in bags. They will always look in them, but not go through them. If it's bagged, it's assumed to be your personal property. But if you have something there we know is stolen, your not leaving with it, and maybe not you either. If it's on the bottom of the cart or unbagged, it's free game. For those folks we stop for shoplifting; we don't guess, we know, 110% and have the video to back up our claims from the moment you select an item, to the moment you are detained. And if you have lingered in the store long enough, we'll probably stop you with a Police officer or two beside us. My partners, throughout this area, are extremely good at what we do. A good portion of them were trained in N. Utica, and all were trained on how to be "perfect a-holes". We don't bother anyone without do cause, and never stop anyone for not showing a receipt. Our Self Checkout Hosts are our first line of defense, our AP Customer Hosts a second. If you see one of us sketchy folks coming out, someone deserves it.

If I'm buying a big ticket item & the AP asks for a receipt I show it because I know he's just doing his job. Last summer I bought some gardening supplies that were in the cart & I was asked. Other then that, nobody stops me because I don't steal.
A couple years ago I was walking to my truck in Lowe's parking lot when I heard someone behind me running. I turned around & sure enough there's some cretin hauling asz with a Dewalt power tool on his shoulder & a security guard behind him hot on his tail. I didn't stick around to see if he was caught.
