www.wktv.com/news/local/meelans-market-closing-their-doors-after-77-years/article_8f1a8510-330c-11ee-bf3b-f3ec6d9d466a.htmlWhen we lived in the area Meelan's was a frequent choice for steaks. We also shopped at Pulaski Meat Market and Chanatry's for meats but for the best steaks we used to call and order them custom cut extra thick and always tender at Meelan's when we were having a family cookout. they also made their own hot dogs that were great on the grill. For those that shopped there often and for years it will be a sad day when the doors close for the last time. One of my father's elderly first cousins lives close by and shops for much of her groceries there. The small family-owned neighborhood corner stores where the owners knew you by name are disappearing and being replaced by the corporate convenience stores and the larger chain supermarkets. As a result the personal service that we knew years ago is becoming a thing of the past also. I remember in the 70s while living on West St near James we had a corner store that we shopped at almost daily for one thing or another. They even let people run a tab and pay on paydays. Now if you need a quart of milk between paydays you better have a credit card or you will be drinking your coffee black.

Melrose market in Frankfort also closed recently when the owners decided to retire after many years. That's a shame because like Meelans it was family owned & customer service was top notch. They're all going by the wayside.

Didn't the market on Main Street in Mohawk also close? That store was another neighborhood market that was noted for their meat department.
