The bird flu is hitting closer to home. The fellow in the article only has a small flock of birds, but a local egg wholesaler said that the upward trend in egg prices is not expected to turn around anytime soon.
Food City prices have risen over the past two weeks to $4.69 a dozen and close to $7. Yesterday was my birthday and we went to dinner with some folks that we bowl with. The subject of egg prices came up because they keep about 80 hens and sell eggs. They sell what surplus they have after filling their own needs, and they are selling to friends and family for $3 a dozen for large brown eggs. They said that they are not in the business of trying to make money off their eggs. They just want to break even on the costs entailed in raising and caring for them. We have 2 dozen brown eggs coming this evening when we go bowling.

How much are eggs costing in the Utica area at the present time? Kathy's aunt told her the other day that she paid $5.69 for a dozen eggs in Herkimer
. Has the price stabilized somewhat? It has hit the restaurants here pretty heavily. We go to Perkins after bowling every week with the couple that is selling us eggs. Kathy usually orders two eggs sunnyside, sausage links and toast. They used to use large eggs and a three egg omlette was massive. A couple of weeks ago the eggs were only about the size of pigeon eggs, and the waitress said that they had started buying medium size eggs as opposed to large. With the recent price rise and restaurants trying to hold prices down, Kathy's eggs tonight may be about the size of hummingbird eggs, haha.
