I find it a bit peculiar that school closings are listed due to high wind. 50 and 60 mph gusts are not unheard of in the foothills and mountains around us. It is the first time since moving here that there are school closings due to high wind warnings. The potential for possible gusts up to 60 mph. My guess is that it is partially due to the school buses traveling the narrow mountain roads in the gusty winds with the potential for downed trees or power lines, and the dangers to students that walk to school. It is mostly for areas around us and not specifically for Bristol area. Our gusts may reach 40 mph, but the higher elevations and foothills are more likely to encounter the higher gusts. I guess it is the NE Tennessee equivalent to a "snow day." I guess I will put a few rolls of quarters in my pocket for ballast so I don't blow away when I go down to the road for my paper.

Well the Superintendents do that as a precautionary method. So the elder male teachers wigs do not blow off. I was surprised at the number of male teachers who wore hairpieces when I was teaching.

I saw a guy the other day in Sam's Club that had a rug that didn't even come close to matching his hair around the sides, and it looked like his wife threw it like a frisbee as he was walking out the door. Kathy poked me in the side and discreetly pointed it out to me, and we both just chuckled and shook our heads.
I guess some men are more vain than others. I had a full, thick, and wavy head of dark hair well into my fifties. Since then it has gotten a little thinner every time I go for a haircut. It has gotten thin enough on the top to be cold when it is cold outside, and to sunburn pretty easily in summer. I wear a ball cap much of the time when outside, but I am not vain about it. I take it off and let my head shine when I am indoors anywhere. I think it is poor manners to wear a hat in a restaurant but it seems to be acceptable behavior here.

The wind certainly DID get gusty. I just came in from Home Depot. The wind blew my cap off once, and on the way home I had to hold the wheel with both hands because the wind was strong enough to push the car around.

Wind is just now picking up. I am watching this well over 80 foot tree outside my window sway back and forth.
