I keep getting offers for a free trial but they want a credit card to charge your monthly membership payment to if you don't unsubscribe 2 days before the trial expires.

It's the "Try before you buy" approach which in most cases if fine. But beware. Some companies feel that if you try, you plan to buy, and if you give them your credit card information, when the trial period is over they automatically start charging you unless you contact them to decline... and some companies are very hard to make contact with (look at the fine print). My suggestion is that if they require your credit card information in advance, don't give it to them and look elsewhere for your software.

My thoughts exactly Kit, but I was just curious as to whether anyone had subscribed and whether or not the software lives up to it's claims. They are occasionally hitting me with a pop-up ad that pops up when I open my browser. I googled them and there are mixed reviews. Some claim it is great. Others believe it is a scam. Ironically one of their claims is that they block pop-up ads, LOL. I seldom use a credit card on-line.

Most things I buy online are paid through PayPal which I am confident in. Just like yours Clipper, my credit card must be protected as much as possible.

A week ago today I signed up for a trial period on GoLook Up.com to find out what info is out there on me on the internet. Big mistake. The trial cost a $1. & after that the monthly fee was 68.22 if I didn't cancel within I think three days. The next day I did just that on their website. To my surprise I checked my bank acct online on Monday & sure enough there's a deduction for $68.22 to those hacks. I got right on the phone at 0800 to those bandits, explained what happened & of course I got the usual lies, excuses, the old runaround. Sooooo, In a voice that was not too kind I told that idiot if my money wasen't refunded to my account within 24 hours I was going to contact the N.Y.S. Atty General's office & then you can deal with THEM. Boy, he changed his tune about as fast as you can say lawyer & after he soiled himself he agreed to refund the $68.22 & I made sure I got a confirmation number. The money was back in my acct. by 1600 that day.
Moral of the story? The internet is loaded with scammers who will rob you blind if you're not careful.

I am always leery of any offer involving giving anyone my credit card information during a trial period at the end of which they will charge my credit card and assume that I want to subscribe if I don't cancel.
Just give me the "free" trial and if I am satisfied with the item being offered at the end of the trial period and want to continue to use it THAT is when I will provide my billing information and credit card.

It was partly my own fault for not paying more attention, but I didn't think they'd debit me $68 bucks two or three days after the fact. It took me issuing a threat to turn them into the Atty. General's office to get my money back. I have the confirmation # for the cancellation tucked away in my desk just in case they try any funny stuff. I've been checking my bank acct. online & so far so good.
