SNOW SQUALLS ON WEDNESDAY One down, one more round of snow to go for this week. The first round of snow today produced a general 2-4" of snow regionwide. Here's a look at some snowfall totals: Cassville 4.6" Edmeston 4" Barneveld 4" Cooperstown 4" Deerfield 3.2" Milford 3" Frankfort 3" Stratford 3" Utica 3" New Harford 2.5" Sauquoit 2.4" Going forward, we're tracking an arctic front that looks to bring a burst of snow to the region. The snow squalls look to begin north of the valley in the morning, bringing heavy snow to the Tug Hill. This band of snow drops south in the early afternoon, causing the potential of whiteout conditions. Here's a look at the timing of when the snow band arrive: Should squalls develop the National Weather Service will issue a snow squall warning. This is to alert travelers of approaching squalls. Like thunderstorm warnings, they are issued for a very specific area for a short period of time (an hour or less). It's best to avoid travel when under a snow squall warning - they are notorious for causing traffic accidents. www.wktv.com/content/news/Snow-squalls-on-Wednesday-566290221.htmlI love snow squalls. If I plan this right I should be returning home in the middle of it.....Ho Ho Ho

Ho ho ho! I wouldn't think you would love a snow squall when you have to walk home from the transportation center, or do you transfer and take the Bleeker Street bus and get off across the street from your building.
How bad did the squall hit Utica as far as slick roads, poor visibility and accidents? I read about a multiple vehicle accident that shut down the Thruway out near Weedsport involving several tractor trailers and some cars. I also read this morning about a bad wreck on I-80 in Western Pa that involved over 20 trucks and several cars that resulting in two deaths and over 40 injuries.
It is 37 here right now but the breeze is making it feel much colder. The skies are a beautiful azure blue with nary a cloud. Very pretty day but chilly.

When we returned from the middle school concert in Sauquoit last night conditions were ugly. Today is clear but windy and cold, mid-afternoon temp was 18. I had to go to Hannaford to get Barb some baking supplies but other than that I plan to stay home.

I was on my way home in New York Mills on Main Street when it hit. Wow what a blast of snow then it cleared up a lot when we hit Utica but by time I was at the Hub leaving for home on Bleecker Bus it was Utica's turn to get in on the action.
Today is very very cold. Had to go to Walmart to pick up medications. Waiting for the Bus to arrive was not much fun in front of Walmart in North Utica that wind really comes across the parking lot and the Bus will not stop and look if no one is out their waiting and no one in on the Bus to get off.
This is one reason I miss my car. I have to wait an entire hour for a return Bus and then if weather is bad and I miss my connection I have another 45 minute wait.

If Centro won't do it, Walmart should step up and build a shelter facing the store so the West wind isn't blowing directly on people waiting for the bus.

When I lived on Hinckley Lake and later on Kayuta Lake I can remember taking trips to work at the base when visibility was next to zero. Route 12 between Evans Equipment and Barneveld was terrible for drifting and blowing snow. I always drove a pickup with studded snows and weight in the bed, but the swirling and drifting snow can make a person almost dizzy and disoriented with their surroundings. I drove off the road and into the ditch one morning near Stittville on 365. I would have stayed home but at the time I was emergency essential as a firefighter and if I didn't report to work some other poor guy would have to stay and work a second 24 hour shift.

You have no idea all the trouble some of us Bus people went through just to get Walmart to place two benches closer to where the Bus stops so elderly can at least sit and wait. Now with winter they are gone. It is not easy. When it rains it is even worse. Just our little bit of hell on earth.

Not surprising PB. Walmart is bottom line oriented, not people oriented. Ask most anyone that works there. Bentonville certainly would not sacrifice the few thousand that it would cost to erect a shelter. That would be a few thousand less to go into the pockets of corporate management and stock holders.

If I remember correctly and I am sure I am when CENTRO was placing the new Bus shelters throughout the area they approached Walmart since one was to be placed at the Bus stop there and Walmart said no. That is a shame since it is very windy and standing there with packages waiting for Bus or just waiting for passengers to exit the Bus so people can board can be difficult in bad weather. It is even more difficult trying to stand there and board the Bus when it is raining and a person has a bag with groceries an umbrella and a cane and not enough arms! How these people with walkers do it is simply amazing. No wonder why they never wear winter coats.

Are you planning your usual trip today PB? I imagine that it will be a zoo at any retail outlet seeing as how it is Super Saturday and all those who have not finished their Christmas shopping will be descending on stores like a hoard of locusts. Stay safe and stay warm. Have a good day.
Is there a bus shelter or place to stay out of the weather at the NH Walmart? I assume we were talking about the N Utica Walmart when we were talking about the benches and exposure to the West wind and weather.

Both places lack a Bus shelter. At least in New Hartford one can wait in the bottle return area and see when the Bus is arriving. Cannot do that in New Hartford store.
Commercial Drive was packed this afternoon as was Sangertown Mall. One would think either a huge sale was going on or a holiday was approaching. Small car accident near the bridge approaching Walmart but looked like nothing serious except I do not think the 20 cars behind it were very happy having to sit there bumper to bumper. Luckily I was going in opposite direction so I just waved.

I was in that area this morning about 9 & the traffic wasen't that bad which surprised me because the weather wasen't bad either. I came out of Hap's & headed to Cliff's on Commercial Dr. for that auto car wash. There was about 8 vehicles ahead of me so i drove out. I usually don't go for those "laser washes" because they don't do a very good job. I ended up at the car wash on N.Genny & sprung for the works, $12 bucks but the truck looks great. It's black so all that road salt stands out like a sore thumb. Not to mention what it does to the paint, etc. Looks like a green Xmas here, temps in the 50's for Monday.

At the time I passed by Hap's the parking lot was full. I have never seen it full or with more than two or three cars!!! I would like to get their wedding kielbasa I heard it is less fatty than regular. I have to figure out how to juggle two Buses so I can get dropped off by one then picked up by the other without having to wait an hour. LOL
