What keeps us going In September 2017, we asked thousands of Americans where they find meaning in life. Their responses were rich, thoughtful and varied, and we have selected 100 to share with you in no particular order. We encourage you to explore the reflections of Americans from many walks of life. Some are hopeful, others bleak, some funny and others tragic. But each one tells a part of the story of the American experience – a small part of our collective hopes, dreams, triumphs and tragedies. Some responses have been lightly edited for privacy. Read our methodology. www.pewforum.org/interactives/what-keeps-us-going/?fbclid=IwAR3EvLcaUh3kIZjUsMcpyLKza19LRHLTSnertA3aMhtVXd661LIqIF6Ka4oTo long to copy and place here but the Pew Research Center did a great job with this project. Yes some are very hopeful and others filled with sorrow and depressing. I can almost feel their pain.

Life is a roller coaster. A good life is when a person finds a balance between good and bad, happy and sad. Hope is a desire for the balance to tip toward the good, and the happy, and farther from the bad and the sad. It is family that keeps me going. I am blessed with a great partner in Kathy, and privileged to have three grown sons, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many many friends. Some days are sunshine and blue skies, and others can be a challenge, but the good days keep us going through the bad.
