I was just reading a report on WKTV site that there is a fire at Remet on Turner Street. They closed the East West arterial for a time but it is now open again. What do they make there, or is it just a warehouse? Always a bit unnerving when a chemical facility catches fire. I remember the community concern years ago when Bonide Chemical's facility on Commercial Drive had a fire. A year or so ago (October 2017) there was an explosion and a fire at Eastman Chemical Company's plant not too far from here in Kingsport. It turned out that there was no dangerous or toxic emissions expelled into the atmosphere as a result, but there was a shelter in place order, people within the area were told to shut off air conditioning and ventilation devices, there were road closures, as well as a serious threat for major explosions and fire if it had spread. It must be a rather tough fire to fight as it is reported that there are 35 firefighters from multiple departments fighting the fire. Maybe these facilities should be restricted to a rural or low population area rather than in our cities. One would think that population density would be taken into consideration during the zoning and environmental permitting process. www.cbsnews.com/news/eastman-chemical-plant-kingsport-tennessee-explosion-reported/

Around 10 PM last night there were at lease 11 cop cars out here on Route 5S. Didn't know why.

It is in one of the Charlestown buildings so basically an industrial area. I have never been in the building but I believe they have waxes and alcohol on site.
Bonide is now located out by the airport.

Waxes and alcohol will make for a hot fire, but at least the smoke will not be especially toxic. Just a hot burning, hard to extinguish fire.
I remember when Bonide was very small, and was located in a brick building adjacent to O'Connell's drug store on the corner of Auert Ave. and Genessee St. in N. Utica. They have grown exponentially since those days of one small delivery truck and 10 or 12 employees.

Fire Chief said the dangerous chemicals were in the back of the plant so didn't cause a problem. Haven't heard and loud explosion as of yet!!!! LOL
