www.uticaod.com/news/20190228/omerovic-sentenced-to-12-years-in-prison-in-utica-college-threat-caseRightly so! Hopefully his sentence will be somewhat of a deterrent to anyone contemplating such a plan to disrupt the lives of an entire student body and faculty. He also got a few additional years for an unrelated charge of credit card fraud and identity theft. I guess he won't have to worry about shelter or sustenance for the next decade or so, and he can pursue any academic wants tuition free.

Yes great sentence he scared my sister plus students to death. He made the call in the outside area of her office area.

If the guy had money he would have gotten a slap on the wrist. That's how it works in O.C. The same crowd who cried for this guys head are the same ones who let that priest from Notre Dame who was a chold molester walk with no charges ever filed. He was buddies with the D.A. I'm not condoning what he did. The students day was disrupted, I get it. But 12 years? Drg dealers selling heroin get less then that.
And judging by Dwyer's unhinged rant leveled at the defendant it was obvious he was biased. Dwyer should learn how to behave like a judge instead of an unhinged maniac.

I would guess that there is more to the story than just Dwyer's unhinged rant, and in today's environment where terrorism and acts of terror are one of our biggest fears I don't find the sentence too harsh. Was it a jury trial or just tried in front of the judge? If I had a kid going to Utica College I would be 100% behind the judge's decision to make and example of Mr. Omerovic. Chances are he won't served half of the sentence if that much before he is paroled.
In my humble opinion, drug dealers selling heroine should receive life. As for the priest that was let off without charges being filed. If guilty he should have simply been castrated by the same painful method they use on animals. Put a rubber band around his scrotum and let his testicles die and fall off.

Omerovic was offered 8 years by the D.A. if he pled guilty. He chose to take it to trial so Dwyer threw the book at him. If there's one thing judges hate it's sitting thru a trial & actually having to earn their pay.
I have yet to see Dwyer show leniency toward any defendent, especially poor ones.

I think there were several things factored into the sentence. If someone is offered a plea deal and rejects it, if that person is then found guilty the sentence is almost always longer than the deal offered.
His threats came at a time when there a rash of them occurring. The guy who called one in to Camden also got a long sentence. The ones in the valley were from juveniles and handled through the juvenile system. I don't remember the outcome from the Sauquoit one.
He called in multiple threats, 3 in 2 days. He offered no defence other than, "I don't remember."
Calling in threats to UC required a massive response. Not just the multiple buildings at UC but the building shared by UC and St. Luke's (my daughter works there) and the next door daycare (my grandson was there).
