Alan,
Have you read the Dean Koontz book, Brother Odd? If not, you might like it. It takes place in a monastery.

I'm about half-way done with it and you can have it when I'm finished. (I only read about 1 chapter each evening before bed so it might be a little while yet)
You can email me at kit.temple40@gmail.com and let me know where you live. I'm in The Brook Apts on Oneida St.

Alan,
I finished reading Brother Odd by Dean Koontz last night. Very enjoyable. I think you'd like it, as well as the character Odd Thomas' personality.
The book is yours if you want it. Just contact me at 733-4315 by next Tuesday and I'll bring it to you. Otherwise I'm going to donate it to our Senior Citizen group on Wednesday.
Dean Koontz is usually a little off-the-wall but I enjoyed this book.

Kit thanks for the offer of the book but I bought a used copy from Amazon for only $5.00. It came yesterday.

Just a tip, Alan... the New Hartford Senior Center sells used books for $1 for hard covers and $.50 for paperbacks. Each sale lasts for weeks. That where I got mine and it's like new. Perhaps other Senior Centers also have similar book sales. It's worth a look.

I didn't know that. I know they use the old St. John's school. Any particular time or place for book donations. I really need to clear a lot of books from my shelves. Of course I would probably bring 10 and come home with 20.

I'm not sure of just when the sales are CB, but I'll ask the Director (Eileen Spellman) and let you know. They line one side of a long hall with tables and fill them with hard-cover and paperback books and sometimes few audio cassette and VHS videotapes, and a DVD or two. They're open Monday through Friday. A sale usually lasts a few weeks. (...and by the way, if you call a day ahead [724-8966] you can get a full, hot lunch for $2.25. Lunch is served at about 11:45. I usually go every Wednesday and although the lunches can't be considered "4-Star" they're good, nutritionally balanced, well worth the price, and you don't go away hungry.)

I know the activities are listed in the church bulletin and in the Town Crier but I haven't paid much attention. I'll have to look closer.

Alan, Have you read the Dean Koontz book, Brother Odd? If not, you might like it. It takes place in a monastery. I just finished reading the book a week ago and came across the thread and had to reply what a fantastic trip I had. It truly is a devotion of courage, truth and devotion of your fellow man( Baton Rouge Advocate). A thrill for me. I wonder how Brother Jesse would react to him............come on Dave!

I've liked almost every Dean Koontz novel I've read. I've ordered a copy of Brother Odd. His work is usually well researched (supplemented by his wild imagination) so maybe I'll pick up a few new hints for Brother Jesse. Now if I could just figure out how to get to the New Hartford Senior Center for lunch some day ......

Dave,
There must be a Senior Center in or near your town that you can go to for lunch. If not, maybe you can put the bug in someone's ear to start one. Perhaps it could be called "The Brother Jesse Senior Nutrition and Activity Center". I believe ours is subsidized by the Village (or maybe the Town) of New Hartford. Once it's established you could suggest that people donate their used books and have a sale a few times a year. By the way, in our current book sale, all books, paperback and hard cover, are $1.
The New Hartford Senior Center also has an extensive library of donated books which are loaned for free. Only thing is, you have to bring them back when you're done.
