Well, I finally got up the nerve to jump on the free offer for Windows 10. Took forever to download and install, but it seems to run quite well. Has anyone had any problems with it thus far? I simply got sick of the free offer pop up every time I went to use the computer. Does Window's Edge seem to work pretty good? I have been using Firefox forever and simply opted to keep it as my default browser for now.
Has anyone tried the "Cortana" app? What would I need to have to use that app?

Clipper, To use Cortana you can type a question or phrase in the task bar at the bottom of the screen. To make it voice responsive you need a computer with a microphone which includes almost all laptops, smartphones and tablets. A guide is found here: windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/getstarted-what-is-cortanaDave, The cost to upgrade from Win 7 is $0. On my laptop I had a little Window icon show up in the right area of my taskbar 2-3 weeks ago. I haven't decided if I want to do it yet. Overall, I upgraded my netbook about a month ago, a couple days after it was released. I wanted start with a device which wasn't critical. The first few days were brutal. It seemed like every time I tried to use it Win 10 was in the middle of an update slowing the performance down to zero. That seems to have abated now. I haven't tested a lot of device drivers. We have a couple wireless printers. One made by Brother worked fine. The other is a Lexmark which didn't work well with Win 7 or 8 and doesn't work at all on Win 10. Lexmark really needs to get their act together.

Thanks Clarence. I have been reading up on some of these features. I will slowly try those that peak my interest, Cortana being one of them. I also have a laptop with Windows 7. I suppose I should upgrade that device also. I don't have a microphone with the desk top but my laptop does so I will try Cortana voice responsive feature when I have upgraded the program on the laptop. I think I may benefit from Windows 10 as it seems that it will allow ease in performing some tasks such as managing photos etc. I also will try the Windows Edge browser in the next couple of days. It seems that recently I have been having problems with Firefox freezing up and a prompt telling me that Firefox is not responding. I don't know if it is a firefox problem or something with my computer but it is frustrating. I have to close it out and reopen the browser to get it to work again. Thanks for the input. I always depend on you, Dave or Ralph to try new things before I venture into them.

I've seen a similar problem so I don't think it's your computer and I'm not sure if is exclusive to Firefox. I haven't had time to see if anything is posted on any forums but I have found a crude fix. I start Task Manager (Control/Alt/Delete, lately I just leave it running). When I get a freeze I bring up Task Manager with the Tab showing running processes up and kill either Flash or Plug In Container ignoring the dire warning I get about killing a running process. It clears the freeze at least temporarily.
I thought Edge looked a lot like Google Chrome but I haven't explored it yet. I did try pushing it a bit, playing one video while downloading another. That was a bit much for the netbook.

I shall try killing the plug in through task manager Clarence. Thanks for the advice and insight. I haven't been on the computer as much recently but I think I will enjoy exploring the capabilities and features of Windows 10. It seems fairly user friendly and easy to navigate thus far.

It goes away in a second. Funny. Been happening ever since I started using Windows 10 and Edge

OK now I'm puzzled. Three people out of a small group experiencing similar problems, one one Win 10 with Firefox, one one Win 10 with Edge & one on Win 7 with Firefox. It's obviously a plot to advertise the new iPhone.

Hahaha. It will take more than that to make me purchase an iPhone. I use my cell phone about twice a week if that often, and then only to call home from the store or something. I have a "no contract plan" with Verizon that costs me $35 a month with unlimited text and talk. I don't need internet on my phone.

You can do that with time also. Just be sure it knows where you live or you might get the temp and time for Alaska.

I use my desktop most of the time and it doesn't have a microphone but I will be trying Cortana using keyboard and mouse. I am enjoying having the local weather available at the click of the mouse and I use the calendar to track appointments (something I never bothered with in the past) It seems that it is much easier to navigate Win10 and bringing up things such as the calendar are much easier than with Win8. At some point I may upgrade my laptop that runs on Win7 at the present time. I don't know how successful that will be as my laptop is an older Toshiba and does not have a lot of memory. It may not be possible.

I use the calendar also. Right now I am in a nightmare. A lady down the hall from me in her late 80's has a laptop. She got it in 2007. She asked me to take a look at it because it was running slow so I did. It is running so slow it puts you asleep. She has saved every email and photo she gets from her children and grandchildren and friend since 2007. There are over 1000 emails and she has duplicates by replying with another email within the original email. Well I am trying to delete everything except the emails with pictures but when I click on the little box next to the email so a check can be placed there to delete it takes 15 minutes before the check shows up. It took me 3 hours just to delete 250 emails so far. Why I said I would help I don't know. She wants me to place the pictures in the emails in a folder in Documents but I think it would be better saving all the photo's in the cloud. I haven't started that but she says she has a few hundred photos in those emails.

A fellow who worked for me years ago also worked on computers belonging to members of the general public nights and weekends. I asked him how much he charged (this was in the late 1990's. One hundred dollars per hour, he responded, and added that he was always busy. "That sounds like a lot," I said. "It is," he replied, "but the customers I get know they're paying for quality and they come back a second time. And a hundred bucks an hour sends running the dopey people who consistently get themselves into trouble and who would wind up hating me even if I fixed their crap for free. But mostly," he continued, "a hundred bucks an hour covers the "free callbacks" I perform to fix viruses you think are my fault. Rather than argue with you, I collect a fee for that work in advance by charging you $100 per hour." Our conversation that day convinced me I wouldn't want to charge for my services and feel beholden to customers. Better to offer advice and let them take it or leave it.

I can sympathize with you, Dave. I've been a professional photographer for over 50 years and I'm still amazed at how many people, after my having spent thousands of dollars and many years learning what I know, still think this is a hobby with me and expect I'm going to do their work for free. Lately, I think it's the 'garage sale' mentality.
Now I just tell people, "Yes, I can do it, but this is my livelihood and I charge for my service so I can eat and pay my taxes." Usually this makes them think, and hopefully understand.

I sympathize with you Kit. It must have been a devastating blow to your pocketbook when photography morphed away from film and moved into the digital age. I can only imagine the darkroom and camera equipment that had to be replaced in order to remain current and viable. My youngest son's wife is a professional photographer and has some beautiful digital camera equipment that cost lots of money. It is not an occupation without recurring expenses for upgrades to equipment. I guess I was wrong in stating that darkroom equipment had to be replaced. I guess there is no necessity for a darkroom or the related equipment with digital photography. Probably a good camera, a good computer, and a photo grade printer are more in line with what is needed now.

Just another quick question. How does one go about deleting and erasing bookmarks that are no longer pertinent or used?
