Clarence, They still make all sorts of multi spectrum bulbs out there. I think they have become more expensive at some spots though. And they are still producing the Reveal bulbs.

They're switching circuits used to rectify the DC and they can be very noisy (RF) around my radios. That static discharge will blow them makes me wonder if they're some kind of FET technology. Blowing front end FETs in my radios with static is a real problem I have to guard against. Most often in this case static is from wire antennas that build up static as the rain hits them or is from large temperature changes taking place.

It could be, I haven't kept up on their internals. The obvious trend for recent years has been higher wattages in smaller packages with shrinking heat sinks. I assume there are chip fabs in Asia churning out LEDs on a chip.
