This was my start of summer song during my high school years.
The version Dave probably remembers:
And a couple of remakes:

Let's not forget Old Blue Eyes.
Summer Wind
And this summer song could have started it all.
Summertime, from Gershwin and Heyward's "Porgy and Bess," first performed in 1935.

What group from the 60s worth their salt didn't play their own arrangement of 'Summertime"? None that I knew of. The groups I was in all had their own arrangement and they were all beautiful. George Gershwin sure knew his stuff.
Another one that all the bands made their own arrangement of was Earle Hagen's "Harlem Nocturne". Slow-n-Sexy.

And many groups were in one way or another emulating Earl Bostic's version of Harlem Nocturne, if not Hagen's..
I couldn't find an original by Hagen,.

Nothing to do with the thread or any of the previous music but I tried to be a trumpet player for a while...

Hitting <Rewind> for a moment and going back to Harlem Nocturne, most of us remember hearing it on the radio by The Viscounts back in 1958 and again in 1966. Turns out it was a one-hit-wonder. Haven't heard from The Viscounts since.

I must be psychic, huh, Chris? ;o)
The words to "Summer In the City" really painted a picture of Utica in July for me back in the 60s. Utica is much smaller than The Big Apple or L.A., but the sun gets just as hot. Great song.

I did not know that St Teresa of Avila was so hip. Of course until this morning I didn't know anything about her. Here you can read up on this morning's topic: Erotic Bridal Mysticism aras.org/selection_ecstasy.aspx
Teresa of Avila has been called the Patron Saint of Hysteria. These old saints would have laughed at Queen Victoria. The Church didn't become hysterically upset about sex until late in life. Kind of human like, one might think. Spain was late falling in line.
Bernini's Teresa in ecstasy.
Am I off topic?
Who was it that said, "Never been to Spain .. the ladies are insane there."
Another reference. Good reading.

Sandra Dee, Troy Donahue and Percy Faith will be turning over in their graves if we forget "Theme from A Summer Place"
