Dave posted Albert Einstein's quote in another topic and it said it all, "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." Need to say no more!

;D .................................................................................................... By the way, there has been scum in N Utica for years. Just go there at night and look around on the street corners and at the convenience stores. ......................................................................................................Ask anyone that advocates taking back the streets, such as Thelma, Todd, Corner, or others, if they want to sell their houses in North or South Utica, or the suburbs, and buy a house in the inner city. That would be just plain frigging dumb. ...................................................................................................... ......................................................................................... cLIPPER - I was born, raised, and have lived in North Utica ALL my life and have yet to see the "scum" that hang on the street corners and the convenience stores as you stated. My ENTIRE life has been in North Utica which is a lot longer than when you lived here and the "scum" you are referring to has to be able to afford and maintain a home over here as most of the property here is owner occupied. Your second statement about buying property in the Cornhill area - not on your life. BUT, on the otherhand, I don't have the "liberal" and false view of the majority of the people that have destroyed this area as you do. Remember the saying "Put your pocketbook where your mouth is"!!!!!!

;D I don't remember ever saying anything about YOU moving. YOU can stay there, and I understand your wanting to because the place is YOURS and YOU paid for it. I don't have a problem with that. I admire your guts and staying power. You are a fighter. But why the F-ck would I want to BUY into that situation at this stage in my life ?? I am civic minded, not FEEBLE minded. I said I sympathize with your plight. That had no negative connotation toward you whatsoever. I simply stated facts. We have our house paid for and about a hundred grand plus in equity. Why the hell would we want to move into a run down neighborhood in the inner city?? I am sorry if you are upset because I didn't buy, and don't want to buy property in the area that is having problems with crime. You are right. It will eventually be all over the city, and soon, if it isn't brought under control. I worry about our property in North Utica as it is. Don't ever think that a drug dealer isn't going to buy a house in N Utica, or that there are not already crack houses in the N Utica area. Don't ever think that there are not drug deals going down in parking lots all over N and S Utica as well as in the inner city. I know that you are pissed at me over the deal with Thelma, but don't get your panties in a wad and start questioning my love for Utica, or my loyalty to any causes. I feel sorry for you, but not sorry enough to invest my life savings in property in W Utica so I can sympathize with you UP CLOSE! Besides, I already have a bid on the house next to Thelma!!!LOL ;D Take a pill little one. I meant no umberage toward your hot tempered little head whatsoever!

Thelma, I don't know if you never go out, or if you just don't see around the edges of those rose colored glasses, but there is scum in N Utica. Home ownership doesn't guarantee that your kids aren't scum, and juvenile frigging delinquents. We had kids that were disrespectful, on drugs, and riding 4 wheel ATV's across people's lawns. There were kids hanging at the fast trac on the corner of Keyes Rd, that I would not trust as far as I would some of the inner city kids. Most of this goes on when old ladies are in bed, and night workers such as myself when I worked at the OD are out and in EVERY part of the city. You or nobody else can say that I DON'T know what is going on in the city. I had drivers come back to the loading dock and tell me that they had been approached by hookers, threatened with guns, and heard shots when simply trying to deliver bundles to a route carrier. If you have lived in N Utica since the Weavers were farmers, and Horatio Seymour was a living politician, it doesn't make a shit in what goes on there now. One doesn't have to live there but a few short weeks to see what goes on. I may be a "liberal" by your definition, but the "false view" that you describe is simply your own baised opinion. You probably don't want a synopsis of my opinion of you and your views and opinions. If you think N Utica is squeaky clean and doesn't have crime problems just as large as some of the rest of the city, you are naive. My grandmother used to live on the corner of Eagle and Elm, and she would say, "I am glad I don't live where all that robbing and stuff is going on". She went to mass in the morning, then to Damiano's market to get her groceries for the day, back home by nine AM and then didn't ever go out again the rest of the day. If ya spend the nights in a rabbit hole, you ain't gonna see what goes on in the treetops in the dark. If shit isn't happening on your street that you can see, stay up a little later and drive around the rest of N Utica. You will be amazed at the shit that goes on. I don't want to burst your bubble, but N Utica isn't frigging Utopia either. You better join me in hoping that our properties hold their values until we are gone or ready to sell them.

Hey swimmy, how do we get this law added in? This is truly needed. LOL. I think the only reason one hasn't been implemented is because it wouldn't pass the vagueness or overbreadth constitutionality test. You also would have to abolish products liability suits as they are too out of control and support stupidity. Then we'd have to get rid of half of Congress, e.g. the housing crisis and the fact that the federal government is actually considering bailing out those stupid greedy mongrols. But if we were to give it the ol' college try. I'd start by defining acts of stupidity, e.g. running from the cops for blowing through a stop sign and turning a mere traffic violation into a 40-count felony indictment. The problem is you'd have about six volumes for the definition of a stupid act. The best bet is to get rid of the lovey dovey coddle everyone to make them happy democrats. Like when I was a kid, I burned my hand on a hot pot. I started to cry and my dad said, you were stupid, I told you it was hot and you touched it anyway. I learned for the next time.

Damn Clipper, what the hell are you on? ? You wrote, "I find something kind of beyond my comprehension, when a person lives in a neighborhood where it is necessary to call the cops 4 or 5 times a day, is knee deep in drug dealers and crime, and then can't understand why anyone would want to move out, or at least not want to move in???" I was merely answering your questions and why I feel the way I do and I'm pretty sure I gave damn good answers and reasons why. Didn't just pull that out of my hat. Now my friend, I am not pissed at you for ANY reason. Anything between you and anyone else is between you. I am not involved or do I take sides. I figure all are adults and should solve their own problems. Just not going there my friend for anyone. So, get off that defensive high horse of yours and stick to the topic, which you and I do not agree on and that's ok by me. Don't expect my friends to agree all the time and do not get pissed at them if they don't. Besides, if I am pissed I will leave no doubts in anyones mind. Everyone will definitely get the message loud and clear. You are looking into things that are not there my friend, now knock it off or I will jack your a--! I'm going to break your b-lls just as always and I will disagree with you if it's warranted on MY part and my part alone. Got it kiddo? Now, stop whining because I've been working my a-- off for the last 3 days cleaning and packing for my move and the patience is wearing thin. In other words I'm fu-kin tired and don't want to deal with any bullsh-t!.

Thelma, we used to live on Domenica Court but your neighborhood would not appeal to us. Your little house is perfect for you and GD, but I have my sights set a little higher in investing in real estate than a 3 bedroom prefab on a slab. If we sell the other place in N Utica, we will be looking in the $150K range and up. My real estate purchasing power surpassed National Prefab Homes in the Mid 70's. Those places were only $9999 with no money down when they were built in the 50's as "starter homes" for veterans. they will not hold their value forever, as they are not that well constructed. they have 2x4 side walls, and 2x3 studding on the interior. When I have a discussion with Bobbbiez, it doesn't require an answer from you. It is like a fu-king echo. When bobbbiez comes back to me, the next post is you. Wahzup with that? Do I get a glimmer of a hint that you DON'T LIKE ME ANYMORE??? Oh crap I guess I better go eat worms. Life as I know it is over! Do we have to keep trading barbs, or can we knock off the shit? If you want to keep making sarcastic little comments you can expect a frigging receipt. Does that make a lot of sense to you? WTH! It is not the mission of the forum! I thought that Ralphs message to us both would keep this shit from happening, but I guess not. I know you are pissed at me, and to be truthful, I wouldn't be nominating you for woman of the year either. Live with it!

Clipper - Ask the Cops that patrol North Utica what they think of the environment over here if you really want the truth. They will tell you, just like they have told me, they get bored out of their minds patrolling over in North Utica as nothing ever happens here!
Oh, yes, once in awhile there will be a drive off of someone not paying for their gas, and maybe even a shoplifter at Walmart. BUT - no robberies, no kidnapping, and NO SHOOTING goes on over here.
YOU can have your own delusions - I will keep mind that are based on reality. PLUS - I do NOT wear "rose colored glasses" now nor ever.
Contrary to what you might want to believe, I'm NOT one of those "little old ladies" that go to bed at dusk. In fact, that is one of the joys of retirement - I can stay up all night if I want to and have done so many times!!!!!!
Let's call a truce - no more of your snide insults to me, and I'll try to do the same, You and I are like oil and vinegar - we are NEVER going to see "eye to eye" on anything.

Stop and read what you just wrote and quoted as being my words. That is an accurate quote, you just misconstrued the meaning badly.
I meant exactly what I said. I said that it is beyond my comprehension why someone like yourself, that calls the cops 4 or 5 times a day, CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY I WOULD NOT WANT TO MOVE INTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD, OR WHY SOMEONE ELSE MIGHT WANT TO MOVE OUT! You live there. It should be perfectly clear why I don't want to move there, and why Ralph cannot take it anymore, and with Betty's health problems is moving on. It was no reflection on YOUR desire to stay there, or your desire to keep the property you own there. Like I said, I sympathize. One can sympathize and can even work toward making it better without living in the middle of it.
I volunteer time at a soup kitchen here, and serve lunch and supper to homeless people. I sympathize with them too, but I don't have to live under a frigging box to do so. You sit with those people and talk over a cup of coffee or a bowl of soup, and you find that many of them are mentally ill, or simply had really unfortunate lives and didn't get help for PTSD or drug addiction, and now they have nothing, and live under bridges and boxes. Some of them actually are able to get a job through the rescue mission or Sally, and DO make a new start. Some are simply mentally ill and Tennessee doesn't have the programs in place to house them or take care of them like NY does.
Many of those folks make you simply sit and say, "that person, but for the grace of God, could be me". I especially have a little more feeling for them because of my alcoholism problems that are in my past for now. When I ended up at the YMCA, the next step down was under the Bagg Square Bridge. I also volunteer at a food pantry, and sometimes deliver food boxes to people that don't have cars. I deliver to black families here in the south that ARE the victims of just plain discrimination. Racism is not dead here either, and it is sometimes more outed and blatant than up there. I deliver food to widows in their 80's whose husbands were black men that suffered the souths wrath before integration, and made little money, so the SS that the widow receive is next to nothing. THAT is simply due to prejudice and segregation.
I have to justify my opinions and my feelings only to God, and when I leave this earth, I will not be held accountable for mistreating VERY MANY people. I think the side of the ledger with the good stuff will be longer than the side where I blasted Thelma, or argued with JC Cummings or Todd way back when I first went on the OD forums.
I think it was more fun when you threatened my lawnmower and didn't point that mean spirited shit at me. Discussion doesn't have to be so sarcastic and pointed. I guess going from a down and out drunk to a fair amount of success gives me a little more compassion for folks. I knew many "bums" as people would like to call them, when I was involved in AA. I went through rehab with old men, that were court ordered to rehab, because they were found vagrant and half dead in doorways.
There are several levels of life available. Some people find a level that is higher than others. Some struggle all their lives and NEVER achieve success. Some because they don't try, and some because they become victims of circumstances beyond their control.
There are people in this country that fought for our freedoms, that simply were dumped by the VA, and ended up addicted to drugs because the VA's answer to PTSD in the 60's and 70's was to give them drugs up to and including Haldol to control their nerves, nightmares, and hallucinations. That is an abomination that we all should be ashamed of as citizens.
I guess my views of these people and my desire not to judge someone until I have walked in their shoes, makes me a liberal with false views. Oh well. such is life. I am content with that label. Will I move to the inner city? Hell no!! But I will walk hand in hand with you as part of the citizen police or whatever, when I get back there. I have every intention of being active, and I am not one to go back on my words.
I love Utica, but I don't have the answers either. I don't see the old neighborhoods becoming "new again", but they could be saved from demolition and decay with a little effort. They will not be the homes of the rich and famous, but they could be homes owned by the residents that live in them. There is no reason under the sun why criminals and scum cannot be driven from the areas, and peace brought back. No reason why kids could not be safe on their bikes and trikes again.

I thought we had done that before Thelma. I make good natured little picks and they get taken as insults, but that is fine. I am all for a truce. I had a neighbor there in N Utica that smoked enough weed in a week to barbecue a brisket, and his kid made the kids from cornhill look like alter boys. I don't think that N Utica has the level of crime that the inner city does, but it ain't Ozzie and Harriets neighborhood either. That is my only point.
Have a good night. Keep your personal comments to yourself, and I will do the same. Later gator.

What patience? I never knew you to have a whole lot of that anyhow, ;D. That ass that you think you worked off? Look behind you, its still there, its just tired and worn down! It will recover and if ya don't get no shorter, it won't drag on the black top. That is why god gave ya legs, however short they may be! hahahaha I don't envy you that moving shit. I hate moving, and when the time comes to move back to NY we will do the same thing we did when we moved here. I will sort out and throw away a bunch of unneccessary junk, as will Kathy, and then we will have a professional moving company come in and pack and move the stuff. When it gets up there, they will unload the truck and put the beds together and we will go to bed. We can UNpack at our own pace. It was $3000 well spent, with our bad backs. I built a trailer out of a boat trailer, and moved the lawnmowers and some of my woodshop equipment, and then when we got here, I sold the trailer for $200 more than I had in it. I can't do that this time as I have to haul the 5th wheel back home with us. Good luck on the move. Don't wear yourself down and get sick. Have a good night sunshine. Just one more thing, GET OFF MY ASS YA LITTLE SHIT!! hahahaha

Clipper, as far as, "one can sympathize and can even work toward making it better without living in the middle of it," sounds really, really good but I haven't seen it from anyone who lives outside the target areas yet. I guess, "can't judge someone until I have walked in their shoes," goes a little farther then as stated. One can not comprehend or truly sympathize till they know exactly how bad these neighborhoods really are unless they live in them. Those in the target areas are the people who are fighting to keep Utica safe for ALL. They are the ones who haven't fled and know if they give up, the rest of Utica will be lost to as the scum eventually takes over all parts of Utica. Let me tell you the fight isn't just between those that chose to stay and the scum, but also with most city departments that can't seem to see or don't want to see just how bad things are getting before it gets out of control, which it has. Even have to stone the Police department to get things addressed. I have told many an Officer, "if this problem was in your neighborhood, things would be taken care of immediately." That is the truth but the truth no one wants to hear and does a excellent job in ignoring or denying it. No one, God forbid, is asking you to move into my neighborhood, but don't confess to know how bad things really are and then think you can help. That just isn't reality. Everyone worries and takes care of their own areas and that is the norm today. It's no different then if you tell me how terrible it was for you to have fought overseas and me telling you, who has never been there, that I understand what you went through. Again, quoting Albert Einstein, "the world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil. but because of those who look on and do nothing," is the reasons why Cornhill and W.Utica got as bad as they are. Too long ignored by those who did not want to hear those that live in the target areas and did nothing to help. When I am discussing a most serious subject, I do get serious when I am stating my views and opinions. I will apologize if I get sarcastic or mean, but that really isn't me unless someone tries to belittle me and my opinions and then all hell will break loose. I do reserve the right to defend my views and opinions as strongly as the next person.
