My sister Diane is here in Boston (Medford) living with me since 1999 after living in the LA area for 25 years. She has visited Mexico a couple of times but never lived there and is not a beach person. She'll be glad to know people saw her as a looker. She is still very appearance conscious & I think vain. Those sports cars were & are a real lure & I'm still a gearhead/race fan. PS What thread was that?

Oldnewhartfordboy... if you were into sports cars back then, maybe you remember my brother, Peter Temple. He had a couple of sports cars... Triumph and Austin-Healey.

Dale, I had coffee with Freddie today. He said he had a ball playing in the Chessmen and to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Freddie said, if you come to town to stop over for a pitch game with him, & Slivers.

This is Clipper's uncle - Jim Gaylord - the way he looked in 1964 when he was the drummer and lead singer with The Nitecaps. The photo was taken in Ogdensburg NY when we were playing on location. A good singer, a good drummer and a good friend. Attachments:

No Kit, Sorry I don't remember your brother. I got into those nasty little cars after I left the Utica area. I still have a Triumph rusting away in a field somewhere. When they ran right they were wonderful. But they never ran right -a nightmare.

Pete and Dale's sister Diane were both into foreign sports cars back then. I remember going with Pete on a gymkhana one day. We met at the old GE parking lot on French Rd and drove all over hell's half acre, timing ourselves every step of the way. Interesting, but the 'bug' never did bite me. Music was my thing back then.

Kit - Mohawk Valley Sports Car Club was the outfit and they were road rallies as opposed to races (as you could come in too soon and be penalized). Your description is accurate, sometimes meeting at NH shopping center and always ending up someplace interesting for the results, awards and festivities. They were fun but like you I never got the bug as I was too much into the music (and probably because I didn't have a car). A gymkhana was when you set up pylons in a lot and drove all around & in & out of them. Sorry, not much Bebop there but I'll make up for it.

Dino-10 4 to Freddie. Pitch is a great game (I prefer Pinochle) but I'll not engage in another game with them again. Ask if they remember playing the Pink Flamingo in Hazelton, PA when Sliver's introduced us to Race Horse pitch for a dime a point. In one week I lost almost my whole paycheck and I was crushed. Somehow I managed to win it back the next week. That was the last time I ever did any real gambling. See if they remember the 350 # go go girl staying at our motel. Everytime she got into her Pontiac convertible the car almost tipped over.

Hi all - It's been awhile since I have been on the site. It's been a very busy fall. I recently had my knee replacement surgery (years over due) and I am now in recovery PT mode. Recovery is going well but it will be another 6 to 8 weeks before I am really back at it again.
Both Eric and I have been super busy for months so we have not really done much of anything writing up the history of the Chessmen. Hopefully, we'll find some time in the near future to make some progress. For now though, it's on the back burner.
Hope you all have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a super NEW YEAR. Take care all!
Chuck

The same to you and yours Chuck, and I hope that PT comes along well. My uncle Bob had knee replacement surgery, and the pain was horrible, but the result was that he is just like new and can walk without pain again.

Chuck... like they said in "Phys Ed" at New Hartfrd all those years ago... "Push, push, push!" Don't overdo it, but don't dog it, either.
Good that you're still working with your music. I'm sure it's very satisfying to you, and we'll be waiting for your 1st CD.

Look what I found on the web! www.spinthegroove.com/2010/11/eric-chessmen-you-dont-want-my-loving.htmlGotta tell ya. I remember Eric & the Chessmen and what a huge local band they were, but they were a little before my time. I might have caught them at a school dance? The Brass Buttons were more of my time and I remember catching them a few times. I do remember seeing Wilmer & the Dukes at the Hill House in Kirkland and what a story I have about that night. I was so WASTED!

You Don't Want My Loving - Eric & the Chessmen Very nice find! Sure sounds a lot like the Knickerbockers "One Track Mind" doesn't it?
