Bobbbiez......kick yourself good and hard. They use to be cheap in Germany but not for some time now. My dad use to fix Cuckoo Clocks and all types of watches too. Taught my brother who gave me a spare he had laying around. Well I had it hanging next to my patio door and one day when I closed the door (no did not slam it) it vibrated enough to knock my clock off the wall. It fell into the ficus tree and so didn't smash but caused the weights to come off, knocked one of the figures off and it no longer runs. (I can't very well ask my brother to fix it as we no longer speak) So it hangs nicely on the wall to stare at. QVC use to have some decent priced ones when they did Oktoberfest but I don't think they do it any longer. Maybe you should keep your eyes peeled for estate sales or ebay. I should ask my connections in Germany about them although I'm sure the duty would most likely not be worth the effort.

jay, one more item about germany. I wa stationed in "Ramstein", and spent some of the greatest times of my life there!! Played in all the "Gasthauses", and enjoyed the great food and people. You have only one life, so you have to explore all avenues, and "Go for it", you will not regret it!! The castles are worth the trip, and there are many!! You will also enjoy "Munichfest", as well as holidays called "Rosemontag", and "Fasching", where anything, and I do mean anything!! is all right. Spent 4 years there, and had a great band there, we had guys from California, Detroit, Florida, New york, And even had a super drummer from Hawaii!! GO< MAN<GO. You won't regret it!!

Bobbbiez you want a cuckoo for a cuckoo? I bet Clipper likes that one...lol I'm just waiting to hear from Guitar Crusher he just went home the other day.I just don't know if I can play a tuba and wear leather short and knee high socks with the little feather in the hat...LOL The music part sounds fine but Clipper I don't drink any kinds of alcohol .Have not had a drinks since I got married the first time and that was in 1969.I heard the women are very fine I could have a few of them right...If this guy pays for my trip I'll go but to pay for all my drums to be shipped would break my piggy bank.Italiansinger your right the good guys did not mind other players sitting in we learned something from others and got payed for it also. Were is my picture Bobbbiez I can't wait to see myself next to the famous Tony J and his hot piano or was that hot pants in pink with lace...LOL now that's funny

Oh for some reason I don't want to picture TonyJ in "hot pants in pink with lace." ps: Thanks! Now I can't get that vision out of my head! At least it's the month of Halloween and TonyJ can use that as an excuse. I'm sure he'll remember how much I loved to enter all the costume contest with the costumes my son ,Eddie, use to make for me. TonyJ was the only one who use to know it was me and just by my eyes. That always blew my mind.

Wow Italiansinger. We have traveled the same paths but at different times. Our detachment was originally at Lindsey Air Station in Weisbaden, and we had a favorite gasthause that served a snitzel the size of a 33 1/3 record with german style fried potatoes and salad for about $7 American back in the early 90's. We then moved to Kaiserslauterne to what had been an army hospital during WWII. We used all the support facilities at Ramstein, and we stayed in the Visiting Officer's quarters there when we were there TDY. I have a $300 black forest cuckoo clock and we keep the cuckoo shut off, LOL. A friend bought a custom made grandfather's clock and paid over $3000 for it, and had a GI include it in his household goods shipment in order to get it back to the states.
We have our non drinking nature in common, but where you quit when you married your first wife, I was not as fortunate and didn't quit until I LOST my first wife in 1976. I used to bring back local wines from Ramstein Village for friends though.
I think Jplatt would look just spiffy in leiderhosen don't you? As for playing a tuba, I am not so sure he could master that, being a percussionist at heart. LOL.

Yeah dave, ramstein was the best base to be stationed at, so many things to do, NCO club, airman's club, community center, and 3 movie theaters to choose from, plus a bowling alley, and three baseball fields!! We would rehearse at the community center, and then play at the Officers club, the NCO club, and also airman"s club. Downtown "Landsthul" was a great place to go, a lot of cafes, olde shops, and clubs. I remember playing at the "Lido" in downtown landsthul, quite a place!! great entertainers from all over the world!! Jay, you may have to get used to some of the "Old world" customs out there, such as women walking arm-in-arm together, also some of the older women never shave their legs, or armpits, something very strange about that, and when you go to the men's room, you pee against a wall, with all the other guys standing next to you!! The western culture has changed a great deal, but I am sure there are some old world customs still going on. Dave, do you remember going to "Heidleberg Castle, and going across that famous bridge, and then stopping at the small cafes along the way?? Great memories, great food, great people, and the scenery was unbeleiveable!! Jay, american women are fabulous, but european women, are so exciting, beautiful, and they have a mystique about them, that sets them apart. I am telling you, you have to go, if only for the music experience, but to see another country, as well as see other people, is just the greatest experience in the world!! Dave, I was stationed at ramstein, but my work was as a top secret administrative clerk, in "Kindsbach", also known as "The Cave", built into the side of a mountain, and a former bunker for hitler, later taken over by the USAF, and made into NATO headquarters. Thrilling to say the least!!!

ROFLMAO! Not many Bobbbiez, but a good many men WISH they had ;D . Yeah.......WHATEVER! What really sets us American women apart from the Europeans is one unique quality most American men don't like and that's, "we don't take any sh*t from y'all." ;D

bobbiez, remember I said ammerican women were "Fabulous", They are, it's just that if you have never seen european women, you can't compare the two. European women, are the unattainable, the creme de la creme, the women you want to bring home to mother, but afraid father might have other ideas. I was lucky enough to be involved with a few of them, but always thought they were so far above me, that I could not stand a chance with them. American women are just too into themselves, and think men are just toys to use for awhile, and then toss them aside. They are too egotistical, too crass, and need too take some long hard good looks at themselves. These are the women of today, years ago, that was not the case. guys had respect for women, and treated them as women, don't you remember guys holding doors open for you, or walking on the outside of the street, or sending flowers for no reason, just because they thought of you that day. Guys should get back to those days, and start taking women as a person, who deems respect, and admiration, and then just maybe, that will make the women of today, far less bitchy, and arrogant, and snobbish.

[/quote] I must be doing something right cause I don't have to just "remember" cause my man does all those things for me. Those are a great part of the reasons I'm with him. He's a keeper! ;D For anyone to be happy with their partner, respect has to go both ways no matter what country you marry into.

Do you guys remember a place called wild chicken.....for some reason all the American armed forces called it that but it was really called Wildflecken...town I was born in. The base there recently closed. Jay I'll be glad to carry your drums for you. Dave thanks for posting the links so we don't have to go hunting for them.
