Dave - Yes, Joe DePalma played in the Premiers way back then. His brother John joined us in the BelAires. We then had two tenor saxes playing in harmony with Guy and Johnny. What a sound if you remember. Rat Race, Tequila, Harlem Nocturne and others.

My uncle played in Utica bands in the 60's (I think), 70's and early 80's, but nobody seems to know who the hell he is. LOL! Every single time I mention his name to someone who posts on this thread, they've never heard of him. Hmmm. Perhaps his band wasn't good? I dunno. I actually only remember hearing them play once, and that was maybe in 1981 or so.

Kim - I looked through the posts on this Forum and wasn't able to find any post about your uncle. I then looked through CNYForums and found a couple but you didn't mention your uncle's name only that you couldn't remember the name of the group he was in. I'm sure I could have skipped over the post though.

I think I only mentioned his name in PM's. His name is Dave Martin. The only band name I remember was one from the early 80's, and that was Timmy O'Shay And The Echos Of Time.

Gee Kim, I don't remember your uncle either, but I sure remember Tim O'Shea's name and have heard him play years ago. I don't remember for sure, but wasn't Tim O'Shea a bit later than the bands that Jonhynes and Dave remember? Tim was playing in the 70's wasn't he?

Yeah, that was later...late 70's, early 80's, but that's the only band my uncle played in that I remember. I know he was in others, though, at an earlier date.

Jon, The combined sound of Johnny and Guy must have been terrific, but that had to be after my time, which was pretty early in the Bel Airs. I left the year you came on board, '62? And Tony DeGiranimo, was that Madeline's (Jimmy's mom) boyfriend? He worked in her juke box business, I remember. She was some woman. When Jimmy and I would occasionally come in from the print shop out back of her building (I was his pressman; I must have printed a zillion raffle and dance tickets) to see his mother, I would walk a wide circle around her. She exuded ...uh, feminity. Or maybe it was just my age. The Excelsior School of Music. Yup, now I remember. So, what ever happened to Gates? Is he still in NY City?

Kim - I do remember Tim O'Shea. I think it was at Don DeLuca's place on Lincoln Ave. I had heard his name previously and remember he looked different that I expected him to look for some reason. I don't have any recollection of the band though. I'm sure Dave must have been pretty good to have played with Tim however. When you wrote Tim O'Shey I immediately thought of 'and the Highwaymen.' But I don't really know that, it was just something that went through my head.

While looking through my pictures I noticed this one of the Original Chessmen's accident after the vehicle was put back together.

Jon, are you finding these ads in fulton history? If so, are you doing a word search? I didn't think the word search extended to ad copy. But that would be great to know.

Jon Hynes - Bass, Tom Acey - Drums, Jimmie Porter - Guitar Boy, ole' Jimmy subbed with us (SSB) for a couple of weeks in the 80's and I think he had the exact same guitar and and looked the same except a few pounds bigger! Tim O'Shea, the only person I can remember thinner than my wife! What I remember, they were a good bunch. That's the first time I've seen a picture of Tom Acey in years, knew him in the sixties before the Air Force. Jon, on another sight we were discussing our past paths and you mentioned a gig at the old Arnold's. I played a short time with Edsen Collins before SSB was formed and we played a couple of weekends with You, Edsen, Ronnie Saunders drums, and myself. You visited a couple of times later when SSB was just starting out.

Dave - The sounds that Johnny and Guy made together with their twin saxes in the BelAires were phenomenal. We were throwing our own dances every week in the Ballroom at Hotel Utica at that time with extraordinary results.
