Its a whole different world today in entertainment. Not just a stand and a single TV or a console to hold pictures of the grandchildren. Now many homes have an entire room designed primarily to house their entertainment toys! Surround Sound adds a whole different dimention that makes 1/2 of that room undesirable for TV watching and listening. Lots of new innovations try to replace largess with tricks and cheats but nothing sounds the same as 8 Speakers properly located and a big subwoofer kicking you in the stomach when watching a movie.
I never go to a movie theater ever, I worked in one when I was very young and I know too much to ever sit in one of those chairs and for gods sake, do not get the butter sauce, that stuff is the worst! They are disgusting, overpriced and many stink like Hogans Goat! While the big screen experience is certainly more incredible on a 400" image than a 50", I prefer my own Lazy-Boy, munchies and libations over a urine soaked flip seat behind an obnoctious brat and their flying popcorn. That said, I don't watch many movies, just History, Animal Planet and Discovery Channel for the most part, I just cant get enough Pickers!

Although all above said is true and I go to the theater alot less frequently than I use to, there just is nothing like seeing a good movie at the theater experience wise...sound, larger than life screen etc. Admit it!!!!

Orville Redenbacher, drizzled with REAL butter ( no margarine) , and a light sprinkling of popcorn salt, recliner tipped back, feet up, remote at my left, popcorn and a diet Pepsi at my right. Bring on the movie.

I hate indoor movies and always did. The only reason I went often when I was younger was to neck in the balcony with the boyfriend at the time. ;D

I loved indoor movies back in the 50's and 60's. It was a place to go on a blustery winter day and was fairly cheap entertainment. I used to go to the Saturday matinee at the Avon or Uptown for 35 cents. Add 30 cents for 2 bus tokens, 10 cents for a coke and 15 cents for popcorn and you spent the entire afternoon having fun for less than a buck.

Yup, sorry Chris, I just cant get by what I saw when the lights were on full bore. A view most patrons never see, Its just a cesspool sticky, yucky, icky stuff and when you put 50 people in one room, the germs just have a field day. I got yelled at when I went to dump the butter oooze because of all the floaties and stuff sunk to the bottom.
When I was 6, there was nothing more exciting than going to the Kallet in Oneida, the place was always immaculate. Mom was cheap, only happened about twice a year and one candy and soda treat per kid was all we were allowed! I loved the flair, character and charm of the old movie houses, they were posh and well kept and run by professionals not high school kids. The Matre de in his uniform, attendants watching closely for any shenanigans and horse play ready to toss you out on your ass if you disrupted the show! Thats an era far gone now, the places Ive been unfortunate enough to end up in in the last 20 years are more like Chuck E Cheese not professional businesses!
I gotta say, I will settle for a beer and a DVD in my arm Chair any day! The pause button is key to the total package for unscheduled intermissions and if I don't like the movie, I can always hit stop and turn the channel to Pickers.
