I never met Tom Lindsay nor did I ever know him personally. But I remember watching the Fujneral four days after he was cowardly killed and crying. Not only was his death a loss to his loving family, but our Community lost a dedicated Policeman that wanted to make sure he kept us as safe as possible.

Rest in Peace, Tom - you will never be forgotten.

I too never met Officer Lindsey. But I have dealt with Utica Police officers when I interned at the DA's office. They all demonstrated a high level of professionalism and respect for everyone around them. I never saw one of them "throw their authority around."

I'm sorry you had to die alone, Officer Lindsey. But know that we all stand behind your spirit, which lives on among the department and the rest of us who are sorry for what happened to you.

The od forums had a thread that included a link to a petition to change the name of Nielsen St to Lindsey St in honor of Tom Lindsey. I would love to sign such a petition if I were there to do it in pen and ink, but I am hesitant to link a name and email address in an online communication with a commercial web-host such as what was sponsoring and hosting the petition.

I would wish them success, but I did not sign the petition. I hope the endeavor gets off the ground and is successful.

God bless Tom Lindsey, may he rest in peace. I am sure he is in that "special place" reserved for brave heroes.

Tom, never to be forgotten

PS: Hope you enjoyed your brothers and sisters in blue visit with you on the day of your killers conviction. The thought of you all being together again made me feel so happy.

I will always remember this day and the funeral. I stood and marched in Class "A" uniform for the funeral with allot of brothers and sisters from all over. A bond that most will never understand.

Thanks to all that showed their support in or out of uniform.

I am all for a dedication to Tom Lindsey. Although I would not sign the petition to change the name of Nielsen St to Lindsey St. Tom deserves much more than that. Officer Corr had a baseball field named after him. That would be more honorable and would stay in everyones memory long after a street name.

I am glad to see that someone is trying to do something in memory of him.

In reading your post Todd, I agree wholeheartedly. It would be much more fitting to dedicate something more meaningful to Tom, such as a police facility, or community center. He gave his life in defense of the community, and the community should be where he is recognized and memorialized.

In the future there would be a plaque or something at the entrance of the facility that would tell people about who he was. If we name a street for him, he will be forgotten. Who the hell can tell me much about Deverieux(sp) or Bacon? I know they were someone of distinction somewhere in history, but I have no idea who they were.

It would be nice if the Community Center that was originally planned for the Hope VI area would come to fruition.

This would be an excellent dedication to Tom and his service to the community.

Much more fitting than naming the street where he was killed after him, can't see that as a dedication myself.

Swimmy, I don't think naming the Police Station in memory of Tom would be fair to the other Officers who died in the line of duty in the past. Whether they died in a car accident or heart attack in the line of duty they were still honorably serving their area. Tom was not the first who died in the line of doing his duty.

There is a memorial fund in his honor and many things have already recognized Tom. To name just a few, such as the hockey game in Feb., between the UPD and our Sate Troopers and the motorcycle ride they had in his honor last summer. I'm positive other events are in the works and I'm sure the street will not be the only thing named to honor Tom and rightfully so.

To have events to honor Tom would be great and a good way to raise money. But they will be forgotten soon after their over. A dedication to Tom would be something that will be there 24/7 and 365 days a year and as clipper stated it could be where he is recognized and memorialized.

Again I am glad they have something in the works for him and may he forever rest in peace.

Hi Todd, all events now and in the past held in memory of Tom is to raise monies for a scholarship fund given out in Tom's memory and for donations to organizations such as Toys for Tots and etc., which will also keep Tom's memory alive. Without the fund raising events there would be no monies to give out to honor Tom. Alot I mentioned earlier such as the motorcycle ride and hockey game will be annual events in his memory.

I am going to Utica later today and will talk to those in charge of Tom's fund raising events to see what will be coming up in the near future and whatever else is planned. Will bring back whatever info I can share with you.

Believe me his brothers and sisters in Blue and their families will always keep his memory alive.
