Swimmy, I don't know why I commented on this, since I'm not an OD poster. It just seems to me from the way you describe the problem that the OD moderators are not moderating. It may be that a moderator drops in occasionally, notices an unruly post and sends out an email to the offender without any investigation into the matter. That's a recipe for trouble. And yet, the OD management probably doesn't want to spend a lot of manpower on forums.

My purpose of posting what I did at the time was just to see what would develop after Swimmy was taking the heat for simply participating. While my post may have been questionable, and while it is only my interpretation, I don't believe it violated their TOS as written in the registration secction. The OD has seen itself through many different styles of forums in the past six years or so. The first was so out of control that death threats were commonplace and there was no attempt at all to moderate it. Chaos ensued!!! Their second attempt was so constricted in the registration process that you felt like you were getting an endoscopy and colonoscopy at the very same time..........before you even got to post!!!! That board quickly became the domain of one person at the end who decided to use it for her personal blog. Now it is where it is. It went for a bit with no moderation to speak of and now along comes someone on a power trip (in my opinion) who seems to want to whack down the very people that made the board into something, the regular veteran posters. IF they do change the format around to a " comment on stories" only style like I have seen on some, it will die a quick death and be forgotten. Personally, I have found it wanting lately and could care less. Clipper had a good idea here and I think we have progressed rather well.

Gee, I miss vinnie. I cracked up when Jstarr said that Ching had apologized. Ching apologized, alright: he apologized for everyone else being stupid in a textbook passive-aggressive manner. Good on you, swimmy, for pointing it out. Oh, and if you want to see what absolutely no moderation looks like, check out www.topix.com/forum/city/utica-nyI signed up over there to participate in a school discussion in the Rome forum. I found out that I was only maybe 1 of 3 people who actually have signed up. Everybody else is a sock puppet.

Remember vinnie? How many responding posters had their posts deleted or their accounts removed? Before vinnie's death threats were deleted along with his account? lol
Dave, Don't ask why you bothered commenting. I was trying to explain my observations to you. Didn't mean to make you feel like you shouldn't have commented. But you're right, there is little to no moderating. Ralph is right, it was the veteran posters who self-moderated. I guess that's where the "gang mentality" comes into play. But we're not ganging up in the sense that chinelo claims, we're trying to do her job without any of the moderating privileges.
