They want to put a new gas station on the corner of Judd and Halsey. Is there really a need for one there? I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks about the need to have one there.
I was really sad to see Lowe's built on an apple orchard. It's not going to be rural too much longer over there. I guess people don't mind.

I go down that way all the time- I think it would be a great place however, there is a station down the road in Westmoreland and the Station next to Walmart. But, if you are heading to the airport and toward Whitestown there really isn't a station around.
I think that it will make a bunch of money.

It may make some money, but if they don't find a way to guarantee that the run off from the place doesn't pollute the organic farm at the bottom of the hill, it'll be out of business when the runoff hits him.

Agriculture is Oneida County's number one industry and I think if they can't find a way to protect that farm then that gas station should have to find another location. But that won't happen. It would make too much sense to protect our number one industry.

I'm generally in favor of economic development. At first I thought they were being a bunch of cry babies. But the more I read and researched, I realized I was just being a pompous asshole. I agree that the environment should be protected first. Especially when a: that use was already in place; b. the area has remained predominantly farmland; and a bunch more that I will elaborate on on thursday, if i remember. i have a big test tomorrow, and yes bobbbiez, i've been studying very hard.

I think it's ridiculous as there are plenty stations close enough including Oriskany. Also despite the traffic signal, they speed through there like crazy. I clocked a girl doing 68 through the intersection. She said "I thought it was 65" DUH. Too dangerous, unnecessary, leave the farm land alone. (BTW that ochard is my cousins, I was disappointed to see it gone. Alot of memories there as a kid with my Uncle.)

But...but....but.....they might run out!!!! 65? I've done 65 on the new end and had my doors blown off!! I supposed 65 is alright on the old end................so long as you have a friend in a pick-up following to pick the parts up that fall off. LOL!!

I find 65 mph on Judd Road is a lot easier on tires. My tires spend a majority of their time in the air and not being worn by the pavement.

Does that justify raising the speed limit to 65 on city streets? Hell, you wouldn't get ANY tire wear on city streets, and your tires would be in the air ALL of the time.
As for the gas station, I can see where the newly increased traffic flow might warrant a gas station along that route somewhere, but not where it would endanger the organic farm, or any other agricultural enterprise. Not where it would endanger the Oriskany Creek either.
Out in the industrial park near the old airport maybe, or along judd road near the old avis truck rental place. Not near the creek or actively farmed land.

I remember when that Avis site was a gas station. It took me years to learn to put a few gallons of gas in my car before leaving Rome or Utica. Thank goodness it's mostly down hill from the airport in all directions <g>.

I remember that also Frank. I am now wracking my brain trying to envision the place and remember what brand of gas they sold. Was it Texaco? Hell, that was back in the 60's or earlier.
