it's easy, family and friends take up space to support their loved ones playing.

No BZ, YOU explain to ME what you call "packed". The last time that auditorium was "packed" was for a Jehova's Witness gathering. There might be plenty of rabid UC hockey fans, but to fill the aud and make enough on ticket sales to pay a quality team to play is not going to happen in Utica anytime in the near future.
You can defend your position all day long, but the truth is that the city of Utica is noted for a population that bitches, whines and moans about everything that the city lacks, but does nothing to improve the situation other than to elect one nitwit after another to spend your tax money on foolishness and studies.
The truth of the matter is that the population that now lives there would rather be sitting in a movie theater, a bar, or in front of a television set, than to pay the price of a ticket to see decent sporting events live.
It is sad that you are outnumbered by the majority who don't care anything about sports or supporting anything at all. For your sake, I hope that support continues for what hockey games you DO have there. It's a great sport and has always provided opportunities for kids like your boys and grandsons to play and to excel. It seems that there still IS support for local sports like softball and hockey, where family watches family play. Just no interest in watching lower grade professional sporting events.
Culture has evolved away from the days when we used to look forward to everything from boxing and wrestling to go kart racing at the Aud. Hockey will never be as much fun as it was in the old Clinton Arena before it burned down. That was where they "packed" the house for EVERY game, and where real professional hockey was last played in the Utica area.
