Maybe I'm mixing up the news stories, but weren't two police officers (the chief and a patrolman) among the victims in the shooting in Missouri? Of course, they probably weren't there as a security detail but just sitting in the audience.
Clarence, now it's my time to be embarrassed. In all these years, I never made the connection between Gopher and the University of Minnesota. Is that where Gopher was first written?
Maybe you can tell me how Archie and Veronica were named?

Gopher was released by several guys fron the U of M. The name was a play on words. Gopher would "go for" and was also the team mascot.
Archie claimed to be derived from "Archive" but I've always suspected that the developers had to comic book fans. Veronica had to be an obvious comic book follow on after Archie.
You are not mixing your news stories, 2 officers were killed in the Missouri shoot out.

Yes, and as a matter of fact those were the first two that he shot. Got rid of the competition first. Not to many officers I know, that be it on or off duty, are ever unarmed.

It sounds like one of the first lessons in Ambush 101 -- first shoot the guys with their guns ready.
I honor their service and mourn their deaths.

Ralph, I'm in total agreement with you. Scary thought isn't it? I have attended many, many meetings myself throughout the years and see no need for the extra security. If there is an issue being held that most know can become heated then the extra security can be requested for that meeting. THE EXTRA POLICEMEN BEING HIRED ARE NEEDED ON OUR STREETS! Before you know it our Common Council members will be requesting body guards. Give me a break!
