Vernon Downs To Close Racino MondayJust great. NY wanted 54% in taxes and cost 300 jobs. Who says the political morons wouldn't sacrifice 5,000 for taxes? Seriously, what intelligent being (and I use the term losely) still believes that the state cares about the region?

It doesn't surprise me- I mean come on the track was pulled out of the drain and put back into a place where it was circling it. Unless we find someone who can, and is willing to, spend a huge amount of money there is no point in constantly bailing it out.
And its such as small niche these days that in the long run it will never become what it used to be- unless they find a new "angle" that attracts people.

Griffo should try and pass a bill stating that the RACINO does not suck...
lets face it. it sucks.
its only hope at this point would be an entertainment venue.. outdoor concerts and such....

they'll always have to be bailed out as long as the state imposes a 54% tax rate on them. As for turning it into an entertainment venue, it hosted the K-Rockathon. But some old lady and the Town Supervisor put a stop to it because of loud noises, increased traffic, and vulgar language.

yeah apparently hearing the f-word for half a day was too much to justify the increased traffic and commerce the area saw for the weekend.

They should have the Sherrifs looking for drugs and curse words... you know... once people stop working and retire they really become pains in the asses for the rest of us...
think about it
most retired people do the following to slow down and mess with 9-5'ers
-they buy lottery tickets between 8 and 9am in mass quantity, holding up the line of coffee commmuters
-they frequent grocery stores between 4.3 and 5.3 to buy day old banannas so they can make bannana bread so they can poop, holding up the pick up a loaf of bread communters
-they go to the bank between 11 and 1 to do.. what ever it is they do.. maybe see why their moneymarket accounts are off .05 cents.. holding up everybody that runs to the bank on lunch hour...
somethings gotta be done....

And the rest of the day, they drive around slowly, clogging the traffic flow. It's the old men wearing hats that are the worst. They've got no where to go, and all day to get there.
I once suggested to Joe Griffo when he was mayor that Rome should have Woodstock every weekend throughout the summers. It was the only time Joe has ever agreed with me.

Los, I agree the Crown Vics are slow. It's the Buick Centurys that drive me batty. I can't decide whether it's the beige ones or maroon that are the worst.
They say it's not the old drivers that are the problem in Rome. It's the dead ones.
