Wow, body count now up to 10 maybe 12 including a child's remains found in Long island. Yep, I would definitely say there is a serial killer on the loose and has been for quite a few years now. Just baffles me that so many people had to be missing including a child and no one reported them missing. I know some of them were prostitutes but even they have families. This is really sad and very scary.

What is the scary part is that at any given time there can be serial killers operating undetected anywhere. Preying on society's throwaways like prostitutes and homeless is a great way to stay under the radar because they are typically people who are not missed when gone. Then dealing with large metropolitan areas like Long Island and NYC, people can vanish with relative ease. The ironic part is many times these serial killers aren't caught, initially, while in the process of their crimes, but rather doing something else minor that puts them front and center. Son of Sam for example was nabbed by a traffic cop if I am not mistaken.

In this case a young prostitute's family did report her missing somewhere in that area and that's why they were searching in the first place and then started to find all these remains. So far she is not among any remains found. From what I hear some of the remains have been there for three years or more and some more recent and most have been found in a clam burlap bag.

Keep in mind that there is no "maybe", at any given time there are an estimated 15 to 20+ serial killers roaming around the country.
And most have no clue.

Serial killers are a fact of life. Thankfully there aren't any more than there are, and that forensics and criminal investigation techniques have come a long ways, making it easier to catch them, but it still a problem that can't be prevented. Nobody knows a person is a killer until they kill. I kill a box of cheerios, once a week. Does that make me a cereal killer?

I was in N Jersey for a few days early this week and the reporting down there is more in depth for obvious reasons. They are speculating a Law enforcement person or wannabe is doing this. The crime scenes are pretty polished. The Perp used a couple of the Victims Phones to call Family members saying sick crap to them.

It seems no matter how good investigative techniques get, there's always at least one person smarter.

I also find this sad and scary at the same time. I feel sorry for the victims and their families. I mean they must have someone who cares. What is happening to society.
I think I will just lock my door and stay inside.

I don't think it is so much what IS happening to society but rather that we have the tools to better link crimes to perpetrators. I mean by any stretch, you sure as hell should consider hitmen serial killers. How many mob hits tied to few killers? The difference with paid killers and the typical serial killers we learn about are hitmen typically kill to send a message so when they kill you will know about it. Or in the least, the high profile victim disappears and it is just a matter of filling in the blanks as to what happened based on the company they kept. With the advent of information sharing and DNA databases and the like, its getting easier to link crimes across the country, and even across the globe. But there are still places killers can fly under the radar. If you look at some of the most notrious, like John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer, they didn't finally get caught until they started to unravel. There was a movie I caught awhile back called "Suspect Zero" with Ben Kingsley and Aaron Eckhart. Interesting. What was very captivating is how they mapped out across the country crimes tied to one suspect. www.imdb.com/title/tt0324127/

Ted Bundy was charasmatic. He had a knack for luring women. And even when that didn't work, he broke in and took what he wanted from them.
Believe it or not, serial killers usually have some kind of talent or skill that make them good at what they do. It is just another showing of how skill and talent can be used for bad just as easily as it could for good. Hell, you might even be able to put Jim Jones on that list of serial killers even though he probably never physically killed anyone, just his way lead to the deaths of hundreds.
