Not a bad machine at all, though I would opt for a little more RAM as well, unless all you use it for is cruising the net. And it does have a hardwire RJ45 port.
I have become vary wary of Norton over the years and usually dump it as soon as the machine comes out of the box and opt for avast. Norton was just too invasive for me and didn’t catch everything. Almost as hard to get rid of as a damn virus itself!

I heard about Avast it is free isn't it. AOL gives us( those who pay for membership) McAfee for free but whenever the update happens or it starts to scan it slows my computer down so much that I can't use the computer. Thanks again to all.

I use AVG, Malwarebytes anti malware and SuperAnti spyware on both my netbook and my desktop. My Acer came with 30 day free trial but I did not bother with it. I use to pay for Nortons for my desktop but once they started getting crappy I dumped them and took the freebies plunge. I find all my stuff on MajorGeek.com. Knocking on wood ,,,have not had any problems.

Yes avast is free. I have been using it for several years now on all my machines with no problems and it is fairly quick. I was using AVG for a while but its last major upgrade started bogging me down and it started to look more like Norton running all over again.
I run avast, Ad-Aware and of course Windows Defender all as “active” programs. I like Spybot Search & Destroy, but it is a dormant program that I scan with once every week or so. CrapCleaner is great for cleaning up cookies and dead relics that need to go and I use it every night before I go to bed (the PC never goes off, just to sleep).
As Chris indicate, Malwarebytes is great and I have that in my arsenal for cleaning up after other folks have run their machines into the muck. Just be careful you don't try to run too many, some don't react well to others and will wreak havoc with your OS or other programs.
The best way to keep the crap off of your PC (other than viruses and such) is to change the settings to empty your internet files and dump all your cookies at the end of your browsing sessions. Keep no browsing history or cookies at all. Yes, they save you time, but only a nano-second or two.

Otherwise, you should always have the cache, and cookies cleared when exiting your browser. I use clamav, for linux. I'm not sure of any malware removing programs for linux.

There are a number of Linux/Unix AV-AM programs out there, but you have to dig. www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/reviews/6479/1/Since Linux is one of the most secure systems at present due to its limited usage (especially when coupled with FireFox) there isn't much available. But I am sure as usage increases, so will attempts at hacks on it.

Ive never tried Linux, all my Computer Geek Buddies run it or MAC OS, unfortunately much of my programming and config software wont run on anything but windows. One of these days I'm going to load up one of my older machines and give it a try.

Thanks, Ralph. Yes, JG, that's what I'm thinking of doing. I'm tired of taking a PC out of the box to have it run snappy-like and a few weeks later it's dragging its tail. I am using some pretty good virus/malware detector/cleaners, too. (Prevx). I think what is happening is Windows related. I ran an early version of Ubuntu a couple of years ago and it was really fast. Unfortunately, the machine was really too small for it.

As much as I respect Bill Gates brilliance and Operating Systems, its become a real dog in many ways. Its exploited internally, externally and attacked by anyone with a grudge against Microsoft or has a quick money scheme.
The Cloud works well with lots of Apps and other consumer widgets but not so well for Commercial work. I still have some systems that are Dos Based and early windows compatible only, talk about step back.....
I am stuck in such a proprietary world with my MM work. Development of redundant software applications is not an option for most manufacturers so Windows being 95+% owner of the market, gets the application.
Things will change, maybe even tomorrow,,,,
