Is anyone having trouble posting to the forum. BZ has had trouble today posting comments. She can get on and read but can't post anything. Has anyone else experienced that problem lately? If so let us know. I am leaving a msg for Ralph in the moderator section. Hopefully he will know the answer and be able to solve her problem. NO I didn't block the little pain in the Dupa, hahahaha. I still love ya BZ!

I know this forum is a bit touchy sometimes due to proboards. Occasionally I have replied a lengthy post with images or URLs ready to paste and when I hit post the screen doesn't return me to the saved post screen and all is lost. That is a bummer cause then you have to try to remember all that was typed before and then get all the codes again for images and the URLs.
She did have her computer hooked up recently , could be related to that or just a fluke. maybe proboards was doing some maintenance. More detail would help.

I have a question for someone more knowledgeable than I. (that is almost anyone, haha) Is an IP address assigned to a computer or to a location where the computer is connected to the internet? When someone moves, as BZ just did recently, does her IP address change with the new cable hookup?

an IP address is the indvidual number assigned to that computer to track it to its location. It's assigned to the computer. If you want to know yours just go to one of the websites for your info. Here is one www.whatismyip.com/

Couple of things.
"....and when I hit post the screen doesn't return me to the saved post screen and all is lost. That is a bummer ... "
Unsure of what platform you're on (Windows or Mac) I can tell you what I do when this happens on my Windows based PC.
I just hit the browser back button a couple of times until I get back to the the page that has on it what I wrote. Proboards does not allow you to hit the "Post Reply" button twice, so you can't hit Post again. But I highlight all of what I had written and copy it. Then I bring up the thread again and paste my reply into the reply box and hit Post Reply.
IP numbers. WhatIsMyIP and other IP identifying services will not show your IP number to an individual PC. The IP number shown is usually for a host in your ISProvider's network, as I understand it, and the individual PC user numbers are dynamically assigned and changed. Also, Providers do not give out name/address information for even static IP numbers. Normally, the IP number you see is resolved to a city or part of a city. Depending on where you live, it might not even be your city. For example, my IP number says I'm in a town that's actually about 35 miles from my house.
Short answer: it's magic!
Can Bobbbiez log on? If not, then she may have an IP problem. If she can log on, Proboards recognizes her and she may have another type of problem.

Dave I am using Windows OS. I do hit browser back button but this sometimes does not work. I know some who use word first to write then copy and paste before posting. Probably a good idea.

BZ said she was able to log on but could not post a comment. I suspect maybe she is NOT being logged on, and is only able to read as a non-member. I think my IP address shows me as being in Kingsport Tn which is about 20 miles from here. Hopefully Ralph will be able to assist her and walk her through a process to get her back in order again.

Clip: Yes, I can't remember who, but someone had a similar problem here once when they weren't actually logged on. They had chosen the permanent logon at one time and wasn't used to having to log on. Maybe it was Bobbie.
Chris: Which browser are you using? I'm using Firefox most of the time. If you want to copy and paste a post, you might want to use WordPad. It will take up less resources on your computer. I always keep Jarte running for miscellaneous "note taking" while browsing. It's a free download and it invisibly utilizes WordPad, but has more function. In fact, you could use nothing but Jarte for most word processing applications.

Now, I have to log on each time I come on and before I was logged in forever. That problem existed before I moved and I still have to log on each time. Yesterday I logged in but it froze up when I tried to reply on any topic. Could do nothing except hit the x so I could get off the site. Very frustrating. I tried over and over again but nothing changed till this afternoon. Had no problem getting on then, but have had the same problem once in a while before my move.

Since you moved your settings probably changed also. Try clearing your cookies and start fresh. In your browser tool bar click on Tools>Internet Options> and click on Delete cookies and browsing history. This is going to delete anything you might have previosuly saved such as a password so you will have to do it all from scratch till the next time you visit your sites. Try that and see if it helps.

Bobbbiez, Proboards changed the log on format somewhat a few months ago and it appears you can no longer choose the number of hours you want to remain logged on. However, look just above where you type your username in on the logon screen and you'll see a little checkbox that says "keep me logged on." You can try that. Do it after you clear your cookies, if you follow Chris' suggestion.
I don't think your IP changing could cause a problem, because come to think of it my provider changes my IP number from time to time and I haven't had to re-register on either of the proboards I'm on. And I've never had a problem logging on from another location when I'm traveling.

BobbieZ,
On one computer (I can't remember which just now) I accidently bookmarked the log in page instead of the home page. I was confused the next time I linked in & found myself being asked to log in. Once I figured out the problem I was able to delete the log in page from my favorites and re bookmark the home page.
