Jury sends notes to judge in ex-pastor's sex-abuse caseSeems like the jury is struggling with this one. Anyone have an opinion on this? Like los jibaros, I have a tough time grappling with the fact that the girl's parents allowed her to sleep over at the pastor's house to begin with.

He is without a doubt guilty as charged.........I know this for certain but cannot prove it or else I would go to jail.
The trouble in this case is you don't have a case where you have penetration or anything like that. The allegations amount to heavy petting which are very wrong but don't carry that same sense of vile hatred that we have for those who take it a step further.
As for the mother allowing the kids to sleep over. Think for a moment your an avid church goer, in fact, the pastor of this church helped you move out of Cornhill to be in a safer community. The house you're living in loses heat for whatever reason and the pastor and his wife offer to watch your kids.
Change the pastor to a friend of the family or a relative. We all let our kids sleep at other peoples homes at one time or another.
The kid didn't deserve this, the mother didn't deserve this, nor does anyone else who has suffered this fate.
I find it so amusing that a "man of the cloth" would so readily change his tune about this. I'm not sure but I thought lying was a big deal as far as church goes. thou shalt not lie or something like that.
How bout, thou shalt not touch small children inappropriately or any children for that matter.
It was more than just a backrub to help a little girl sleep.....be sure of it.

I always reserve judgement in cases like this, as it is easy to believe allegations such as this when sometimes there is more at the root. Such as a child with an axe to grind or a parent with the same axe to grind, knowing that in these cases, the defendant is "guilty until proven innocent".
When finally proven guilty in a court of law, by the preponderance of irrefutable evidence, it is time to throw the book at the digusting excuse for a human being. Anyone that molests a child should be thrown to the wolves. He should wear a red jumpsuit with molester printed across the back, and be thrown into the excercise yard for true justice to be done.

Not for nothing, but after raising 3 boys and 3 girls, I don't ever giving them "back rubs" to get to sleep with the exception of when they were little and still in a crib.
I am sure my own kids would have looked at me a little funny at any other age of their lives.

I don't know about that...my daughter is 4 and will ask my wife or I to rub her back and sing to her to help her fall asleep when she's having a hard time falling asleep.
I'm pretty sure the same was true of our son until he was about 5 or so. I don't think you put an age on it. Eventually they learn to self soothe. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's when you start massaging the childs backside and between her thighs then it crosses a line. And at a minimum that's what this guy did.
Also, don't forget that this guy was not the girl's father. I have no tender place in my heart for those who try to steal the innocence of children. I say send him home to his God, a little ahead of schedule.

True, true....ours just never did.
But as you pointed out, there is a distinct difference between ones parents doing it and someone else.
No, I have no love for people that try that with a child, especially those that are supposed to living by a somewhat higher code of ethics.

Unfortunate, for everyone involved. I know his wife, and she is a good teacher. This is not going to be easy on the victim's family, nor on his family.

It's when you start massaging the childs backside and between her thighs when it crosses a line. even if he was her father, I'd question the kind of contact you just described. It's disgusting, appalling, and disgraceful.

I was completely misunderstood.....I wasn't saying that if he was her father he could massage her buttocks and inner thighs. That is reprehensible no matter who does it.
My point was he wasn't her father so he shouldn't probably be rubbing her back.
it was poor formating on my part and I put two unconnected thoughts too close together.
