I'm looking forward to the 7-way debate tonight at 7 for NY State governor. I'm curious what Kristin Davis (The "Manhattan Madam") along with that guy from the "Rent is 2 damn high" party will have to say. Ain't America wonderful?? ;D

NY state has my sympathy. I would not want to have to vote for anyone on that slate. It is getting to be the same way all over.
We have a three way race in neighboring SW Virginia for congressman. The incumbent Democrat has been in office for 30 years and has outlived his usefulness. He is in favor of cap and trade, which will jeopardize 56,000 coal jobs in an area that is supported mainly by mining. He touts the bringing of two industries in particular to the area, gave them huge tax incentives, and not only didn't they live up to the agreements to produce additional jobs, they have now used up the tax incentives and are closing the plants and moving those jobs elsewhere, leaving everyone from housing developers to small businessmen in the lurch, and the county with an empty industrial park that the taxpayers now have to pay for and maintain. Seems kind of foolish to spend millions on broadband, and give away millions in tax incentives to lure business to a town 50 miles from the nearest interstate. Typical of the waste of federal monies and grants.
He did great things several years ago for the area he serves, but those days are over, those corporations that he helped with incentives have screwed him, and now with his support of Obama and Pelosi's agenda, he is a very unpopular person around SW Virginia. The only thing that might save his ass is the fact that there is an independent candidate running that may split the Republican vote.
Personally I think there should be a two term limit for the house and the senate, just as there is for president.
The CNY area saw those same problems with Republican Sherwood Boehlert who did well to begin with, but stayed too long, and outlived his usefulness. Funny how he remained popular enough to be re-elected right up until he finally retired of his own accord. I think that becoming "experienced" in Washington is synonymous with becoming corrupt, connected, and crooked, and allows people to gain too much power. Those servants forget where they came from and WHO they are supposed to be listening to and voting the wishes of.
My voting in Tennessee will be done today in a hotly contested run for governor just as in NY, as well as some national and local offices. We have early voting here. It will be a straight R across the board, although I don't normally vote a straight ticket for either party. I simply think it is time to unseat the Democratic majority. I know that is an unpopular opinion on a forum where I am one of the only conservative or right wing players.
Truthfully I am quite sick of seeing politics reaching such a level of discord among friends. Even at the bowling alley it seems that it can be more adamantly distasteful to be either a conservative or a liberal, than to be a rapist or a murderer.
I feel sorry for NYers going to the polls conflicted and with only a choice of who will do the least harm, rather than what good any of the candidates can do. While Cuomo is most likely a crook just like his Dad, Paladino is a total bigot, foul tempered big mouth, and certainly not in possession of the sort of personality or level head to serve effectively. Good luck with Cuomo, who will be elected simply because Paladino is unfit to even run, much less win. Are any of the others even serious contenders with serious numbers of supporters?

Elections are just popularity contests. It's like we're lost in a fog and the captain of the ship died and before we run into an iceberg, which could take a long time or a short time, there are those who want to take our money and have a good time. So they manage to put up leader candidates they think will get elected and who will put the powerful in advantageous positions. Some of the candidates are somewhat sincere from time to time, maybe not all that often.
So when the criteria for gaining financial and political support to run for office is electability, anything goes. When the populace is angry, put up an angry candidate. When voters are fearful, put up a militant candidate. Who knows what the future will bring? When the nation finally lapses into its inner child, the backroom guys may put up a reconditioned Captain Kangaroo. No, wait! Didn't they already do that?
Me? I'm voting for Little Richard. Write-in, of course.
He's the King!

I think I would have to go with the reconditioned Captain Kangeroo. That is unless we could bring back Alfred E. Newman.

That's him! The universal, non partisan candidate! He fits well in all of those pictures, LOL.

Well I've already voted, & I'm sure you all know who for. I just love watching debates! I used to attend them even if the candidates weren't in my district. I used to even go to Utica CC meetings & I didn't live in Utica. That's when I had more energy, of course...

Good, then I didn't miss anything. I chose to watch the Yankee's game instead.

I watched it. I was impressed with the Libertarian candidate who said he didn't stand a chance of winning, but still stated his opinion & asked that viewers choose wisely between the 2 front-runners.

That's the best thing I've heard a candidate say in a long time. ;D Should have watched the debate. Couldn't have depressed me any more then watching the Yankee's game.
