I know that one of the problems with food thrown out around here is logistical, at least prepared foods. Regardless where they are coming from or going to there are health standards that have to be followed. Hot & cold foods both have to be held at certain temperatures during transport and storage. I remember watching a program on TV several years ago about the lengths that a group went to in order to pull it off in another part of the country, quite involving. But by the same token, I can’t begin to tell you the amount of “waste” we throw away every day from our stores. While in the past year we have gotten better at controlling a lot of it, if we were able to donate it all to Hope House they could probably feed every person that needed it at least a donut, bagel & muffin for breakfast every day. The United States of America, land of plenty and land of waste…..where a damn good portion of the folks that could make a difference care more about the aid we give other countries than those freezing and starving on our own streets. And we’re “civilized”?
