Madrassa Masquerading As Minnesota Charter School Remains Defiant

July 18, 2009 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Despite being given four months to address a lack of credentialed teachers at the Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy [TiZA] located in Minnesota's Inver Grove Heights, the state's Department of Education has determined that the Muslim school has not rectified the problem and is recommending that $1.4 million in funding to the controversial institution be halted.

TiZA has repeatedly come under fire because of its Islamic based pedagogy, with even the ACLU surprisingly bringing suit, claiming, "The American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota filed a lawsuit today in Federal District Court against Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy (TIZA) and the Minnesota Department of Education stating that the charter school has violated the Establishment clause of the U.S. Constitution by using taxpayer money to illegally promote religion."

As Chuck Samuelson, Exec. Dir. of the Minnesota ACLU sees it, "This is not a sectarian school that focuses on Middle Eastern culture, this is a pervasively Muslim school that teaches religion."

May I interject I wouldn't want my tax dollars supporting either. For one thing, it's far beyond the state's responsibility to educate children. For another, treating savagery as an academic topic does not make it a "culture."

The radical Muslim ties to the school are substantial, starting with its name, taken from the eighth century Muslim jihadi who conquered Spain. Far more troubling, TiZA actually resides within the Minnesota headquarters [which includes a mosque] of the Muslim American Society [MAS], a wing of the terrorist Egyptian group the Muslim Brotherhood and is sponsored by Relief USA, a Muslim faux charity whose parent organization has been linked to Hamas by Israeli intelligence. Additionally TiZA's Executive Dir. Asad Zaman is the MAS mosque's imam.

Getz states that she observed, while teaching at the school on Friday, that Islamic prayer and the ritual washing beforehand [wudu, as commanded in Sura 5, "O you who believe! when you rise up to prayer, wash your faces and your hands as far as the elbows, wipe your heads and your feet to the ankles..."] was mandatory and that Islamic studies, including copying parts of the Qu'ran by students into their notebooks, seemed to be a normal part of the daily lesson plan."

I've followed this one for a bit although not closely. Most of the controversy seems to have died down for now. Hopefully, problems can be addressed in a general way and not directed at a particular school or spensor.

When I get home, I'll dig out some stuff for you on Minnesota and winter, but my best reference material doesn't seem to be available on line.

A. But that's what it's all about, the particular schools and the sponsors. We're not talking here about a bunch Methodists who want to kill us.

B. I was just wondering how popular space suits are in MN in the winter. Here in the Catskills, you don't see them all that often.

Where to draw the line is always the tricky part. I could do it if I were Church/State czar but I don't have the time.

Space suits are only popular if you can get the ones with real wolf fur around the faceplate, otherwise it fogs over.

Which somehow brings me to another Ole story:

One Sunday in February, Sven persuaded Ole to go ice fishing instead of going to church. As fate would have it they hit a bad spot on the ice, Ole’s pickup broke through, they went straight to the bottom and drowned. Since they were fishing on Sunday morning instead of being in church they went straight to hell.
They next morning the devil went out to survey his domain and was pleased with what he saw, a lake of molten sulfur, cracks in the earth spewing fire and poisonous gas, barren trees, in the distance a volcano belching smoke. The temperature was, of course, hellish. The only blight on the landscape was an old pickup with 2 guys sitting on the tailgate. They had collected branches from the barren trees, made a fire and were making coffee in a tin pot.

As the devil walked closer he could see that they were wearing parkas zipped up tight, snowmobile boots and pants, and mittens. In a fury he yelled at them, “You have been sent here for eternal damnation, what in H*** do you think you are doing making coffee?”

Sven answered, “Sorry sir, but you see we just drowned in a frozen lake and we are having a hard time getting warmed up.” Ole added, “Ya, we’re from Minnesota, don’t ya know.”

The devil decided that the only way to fix this was to increase the level of torment. He went back to his office and pushed the thermostat up to “Oven.” As he walked back to the lake he could see it was starting to bubble and the volcano was shooting fire into the air. Sven and Ole had un-zipped their parkas and taken off their mittens and were warming their hands over one of the cracks in the earth venting hot gasses.

Before he could say anything, Sven said to him, “Thank you sir, that is finally starting to thaw us out.” Ole added, “We really appreciate it, were from Minnesota, don’t ya know.”

Back the devil went and pushed the thermostat all the way up to “Blast Furnace”. Returning to sulfur lake he could see that it was in full boil and a flow of lava reached from the volcano to the lake. Sven and Ole had taken off their snowmobile pants and were now sitting next to the vent of hat gas in their tee shirts and dungarees, frying potatoes.

No longer able to contain himself, the Devil shouted, “What’s wrong with you guys?” Sven replied, “Sorry sir, but this is the first time in years that we’ve really been warm.” Ole added, “Ya, we’re from Minnesota, don’t ya know.”

With no higher temperature settings on his thermostat, the Devil decided to try a different tack and pushed it down to “Deep Freeze”. Returning he could see that the sulfur lake was now solid, the volcano was snow capped, and icicles were hanging from the barren trees. Sven and Ole were whooping and hollering, giving high fives and carrying on to beat the band. Defeated the Devil asked, “Now what?”

Sven said, “Look, H*** with snow and ice as far as you can see. Don’t you know what that means?” The Devil answered, “No, what?”

“The Vikings have won the Superbowl!”
