Only time will tell. I just hope we are still an intact democracy and world power when that day comes. Makes no difference what we say now. Unless something drastic were to happen, we are saddled with him until at least 2012.
If we needed a first black president, I sure wish it had been Colin Powell. Republican or not, that man is a brilliant strategist, and leader. HE was a smart republican and left the Bush administration while his integrity was still in tact.
Said it before. I am not a party aligned voter, nor am I partial to the Republican party. I am damned sure not a democrat with the leadership that they have in congress and the White House right now.
Hell, with the money that Obama is spending and proposing to spend, Bush's spending will be a mere pittance by comparison when it is all said and done.
Bush's prescripton drug program for seniors makes a lot more sense than the healthcare bills being proposed by the dems right now.
Even on a limited retirement income, I still carry self paid private health insurance, that pays for much of my care and prescriptions. The rest of my care and prescriptions come from a government program called the VA. I earned that care serving in the military and risking my pale white ass in Viet Nam.
Healthcare reform is needed, but to rush into the present plans is just plain too expensive and too haphazardly planned simply for the purpose of getting it done in the first year of his administration. Healthcare is something that needs to be decided by BOTH parties and worked out until BOTH parties are on board with a compromise plan. The end result is going to apply to both republican and democrat citizens, and will be paid for by both parties, so why the rush? Why not take our time and come up with an AFFORDABLE and acceptable plan, that ALL American's can be contented with and can afford to pay for.
The fact that healthcare reform is needed is pretty well accepted by ALL Americans, but making it a campaign promise that must be accomplished in a the first few months or the first year in office is totally ignorant and unfeeling when you stop to think of the impact that it will have on the budget and on the lives of those that will pay for it.
He belongs in DC, sitting around a table with knowledgeable military leaders, finalizing a plan for the war in Afghanistan, and maybe IN Afghanastan, telling Afghan leaders and Karzi that they need to step up and make a committment to defend what has been paid for with American and allied blood.
Personally I think he is much more comfortable flitting about the world on Air Force I, on shuttle diplomacy missions, than he is facing his responsibility in the US and answering the hard and important questions.
Putting a war on the back burner while he plays kissy face with world leaders and flies around on issues of trade and such is a slap in the face of our troops that are dying every day while he procrastinates on addressing the issue of troop levels.
Hey Kracker. I see we are still where we usually are when it comes to political opinion. Not all issues are republican or democrat, nor conservative or liberal. Some issues are just common sense, and politics should not play a role. This BS of bashing Obama is no different that the Bush bashers on your side of the debate.
Hopefully it will all settle out, and another election will tell us whether he has been a success or a failure. We seem to always manage to survive and thrive. I pray that this too shall pass and we will be the same old USA that I love and grew up in. In the mean time I will sit on the edge of my seat and hope for the best. Hope that he doesn't take us down a road that we won't be happy to travel.
