This is NOT the actual unit but it's very similar. I think Rome's has white stripe . "The Rome Police Department’s Mobile Command Center (MCC) is a mobile police station/command post. Operations include computers, radios, observation platform, audio-visual equipment, and work and interview areas. The MCC is also equipped with a generator, microwave oven, refrigerator and lavatory so that it may be deployed for extended periods of time. This specialized vehicle is deployed to crime scenes, public gatherings, targeted neighborhood's, parades, civic events, fire scenes and at any other function where a fully equipped command center is needed." www.uticaod.com/news/x772326469/Rome-police-mobile-unit-to-appear-in-UticaAttachments:

This was talked about a long time ago and instead they opted for the little mini-bus thing instead.
If they hadn't dumped all their marbles into the fiasco on James Street I would back this 100%, but as it is now, unless this came through a grant from DOJ or OJP I would put it far on the back burner.
And just for the record, this wasn't on LaBella's but submitted by a Council member.

And just for the record, this wasn't on LaBella's but submitted by a Council member. Saw that Ralph but with my cynicism and the state of current affairs, I've got a couple of bucks that says it didn't start there but ended up coming from there. And I see NO need for this thing. Total waste even if it comes from a grant. This is not problem solving. I think REAL leaders would find REAL solutions. What's the mentality here. "Let's scare the crime out them"? You see what a difference the substations make. How about maybe we work out a co-op program with Rome because they sure as hell don't need one either.

I like Concerned's idea. It would damn sure do away with the neccessity of high speed chases. One burst from a machine gun would bring the chase to an end. Just think how quickly a crack house could be eliminated with a couple rounds of HE from the tanks big gun. Can you see some little piss ant dealer standing on a corner with his 9mm when a loudspeaker booms out from the confines of the tank, demanding that he drop his weapon, while the turret swings to train that cannon on him?? The tank crew would have to call dpw for a pooper scooper to clean up after the suspect pooped his drawers. On a more serious note, as a previous owner of a motorhome, and the present owner of a travel trailer, the difference in price of a self propelled unit such as is shown is ridiculous, when one thinks of the fact that the same amenities could be contained in a trailer to be pulled by an existing police truck, or a one ton dual wheeled pick up truck. Much more cost effective than the plush "motorhome" configured in the picture shown.

Did I hear that right? I thought I heard on a radio news report early this morning that Utica might like up to FOUR of these things.
At 0500, my ears aren't necessarily awake, even though the rest of me is up and about.

Gee, if they need one for each high crime area, they better buy a dozen. Maybe they can get a quantity discount.

For all I know, a Cop Bus might be the best thing since Tasers. But I think taxpayers deserve something more than a description such as above. I think whoever really wants this thing should produce a press release stating Five Really Important Reasons Why We Need This Vehicle. Because right now The Blue Ox smells too much like a radio station's On The Scene Disk Jockey Publicity Van.

Just as addendum, this was brought up when I was with Weed & Seed back in 2003, but was shelved in favor of more and better computers as well as equipment for the SWAT team. Which I agreed to wholeheartedly. There was a program funded through DOJ’s Office of Justice Programs which would have funded something such as this, which they did for a number of sites, but they have become much more frugal since the Bill Clinton days. These pictures were taken when I was in Albuquerque for our national conference back in 2003 The first is a shot of their mobile unit. The second two are of their answer to knocking on doors to serve a warrant. They actually haev a battering ram that they can attach to this beast for those hard to get into places!!
